dear tracktioneers,

forgive me if this has been asked too often before, I couldn't find anything on a - have to admit it: quick - search:

I installed the latest T2 update on an amd xp 3000+, 1gb ram, m-audio delta audiophile, puh, can't think of the mobo right now, some audio-recommended thingie,
and I can't do the following:

if I click on the piano roll or even the notes in a midi-clip, I can't preview it anymore, a second before it worked well

if I export as an audio-file, I got two silent clips out of three

sometimes, this happened already with T1
there is no sound anymore on vsti-tracks, so I have to close the project, open it again to get some sound

any hints on one of that?

thank you!!

Do you mean it literally stopped working from one moment to the next, or that it stopped working after you installed T2?

You do have the "speaker" icon enabled in the MIDI editor toolbar, right?

That isn't good. Is this repeatable (I.E the same two fail each time)?

Does toggling end-end mode ever work to reactivate dead tracks? The only time I get tracks that lock like that is when a plugin hosted on the track gets upset by something. I've noticed a couple of reverb plugins (Tracktion's native particularly, but the KJaerhaus one does it too) are bad for 'stalling,' for want of a better word, when certain audio signals are delivered to them. Generally over-load impulses (IE a static click from an input or an unfortunate resonant belch from a mis-driven VSTi) seem to cause it to happen.

Oh & is the yellow speeker icon on in the midi tool bar when you are trying to click on the midi notes?

& is end2end enabled down by the transport controls?

thx valley, yes it happened from one moment to the other while working in T2.

well, haven't tried it anymore after two failures with the same project as I was in a hurry, sorry for that!

Never thought of untoggling/toggling the E-to-E-button! But none of the above mentioned suspects have been involved, this happened in most of my few projects from time to time, even in T1...

should be so as it happened from now to then, but as I'm lying on my back with the keyboard on my belly, i might have touched a shortcut-key without noticing?

must change the log-in to look into those details,
later,

thx!!

Very weird, really...

Eh? Not at all. It's just (generally) easier to fix persistent problems as they are easier to identify. If you can make it repeat the behaviour then generally the edit itself can be used for bug hunting. Otherwise you start to wander into the territory of heisenbugs, which is...

very bloody odd. :(

I wonder whether there is something more low level afoot here?

Do specific VST plugins seem to be more commonly affected than others? When you lose sound, is it always just a few tracks, or is it sometimes the whole app? Are you using racks, senderalla, or anything that could be getting confused?

do you have any midi vst plugins in the edit? & if yes are thay the tracks that are sometimes affected?

:shrug:

@cvalley:

maybe it is some hardware-related thing or my set-up or whatsoever, if no-one has experienced his before i don't think it's T's fault then...

when I loose sound, it's only on some vst-tracks, the audio-trcaks play fine, but i don't think certain plugs are concerned as I often use different omes on different projects.

racks and senderalla aren't the cause at all.

@Subject:

it did happen with a simple midi-notes-to-vsri-track, not any idi-plugins involved...

well, afzter i did restart T2, i could preview the midi and the sound was there again and renderimng did work as well...

strtange...

thank you for your help!!

I, too, have had times rendering a MIDI track with a VSTi attached and it comes out silent. I couldn't nail it down to one plug. I KNOW it happened on Kontakt 2 and EWQLSO Silver. I'm also aware that NI products have problems rendering because of their DFD settings. But I changed it all, and even used other synths, and it came out silent most of the time. That was the last time I used T, a couple days ago. I've been very busy, so I haven't been able to test it again. But I'll try and see what causes it for me. Very wierd, because I've NEVER had this problem before, then all of a sudden, I do.
