You probably have System Restore off, don't you? I was always told to have it off for better performance, but I found that it didn't really affect anything noticeable, and after a time or two of my own stupidity(that registry can SEEM easy enough!), I was glad I kept it there.

Sorry, I may have misspoken. I think it is win98 only. XP should be able to repair the files through another route:systemscan
start->run->"sfc / scannow"
that's run, "sfc[space]/[space]scannow"
it has helped my compy before. Here is the MS link. it may require an installation cd, but it repairs any damaged or overwritten windows file. WARNING: it could overwrite settings other programs have made- I don't know. (I'm cautious since your at "Gun Point"...)

Hay thanks for the help. Dont worry, I'm very non-violent. Ever since I got out of jail, I've been pretty calm.ouroboros wrote:Sorry, I may have misspoken. I think it is win98 only. XP should be able to repair the files through another route:systemscan

I found this registry fix that is supposed to set my default XP font back to Tahoma. But I dont even know what to do with it. Its just words to me. Anybody know where I should put this?
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes]
"MS Shell Dlg 2"="Tahoma"
"MS Shell Dlg"="Tahoma"
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000

hmm. I would try the sytem scan first, as it restores things back to factory specs.
the keys you found should be edited into the registry.
Use regedit (start->Run-> "regedit").
The characters in brackets denote where the values are held in the registry, [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes] for example. When you can find those keys in the window on the left, you can edit them to match the values you found in the right hand pane.

Copy it into notepad, save it as defaultfont.reg and double click on it. Alternately, you could use regedit and navigate to those keys and change them manually, or add them if they're not there.

You could also change the default font that firefox displays under firefox tools.

D/l this:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... ySetup.exe
it is the power tool, tweakui from MS.
install it. run it.(from the program menu)
the last selection in the righthand pane is repair. It has a drop down dialog box with a "repair font folder" selection.
if the system scan, regcode and folder repair don't work, then I'm out of options and question if it is a virus or a trojan of sorts. If so, d/l and run ad-aware and ccleaner (ccleaner might fix it anyways) if possible.
sorry my man. wish I could fix it!

Since browsing's a pain, here are the download.com pages the software is listed on. Just click on each, and then click download.
