Anyone have any experiemce with it? How do you like it?
I just ordered one to replace the SB Audigy2 that isn't even a week old. Don't like it at all for recording. Good thing I have 14 days to return it for a refund.

Dont't have the 192, but I did have the 2496 for a short while, and it was great (good sound, stable drivers). Since the 192 is the new and improved version, I expect you'll be quite happy with it (especially considering what card you're coming from).

Thanks for the reply I wanted to keep my options open about using the old SB Live just for the 5:1 speakers on the computer system.
As a newbie I am still in the middle of ready the reference guide and manual for Tracktin2. Would you mind telling me how to disable the Soundblaster in Tracktin settings. I would appreciate it.

I found a M-Audio 2496 that Guitar Center had removed from one of their demo's in the pro shop. But the salesman could not find the software or the breakout calbels for it andthey still wanted $50.00 for it. He tried to find the missing things but to no avail. So I went ahead and ordered the M-Audio 192 and it sounds like I made the right decision this time. Ususally I go for the low end of a good card but this time it sounds like I got the right card.
It should be here Tuesday so I will have a full day just working on the computer.

Another question if you don't mind.
I have a Dell Smartstep 250N with a P4 (not a mobile CPU) 2.4 with 512 meg of ram a wide 15" screen and I upgraded the hard drive from a 4800 spin 40 gig to a Hitachi 7200 spin 60 gig. Do I need to look at 1 meg of ram for this or will the 512 run Tracktion2 without any problems. Will the soundcard on the laptop hinder getting a good recording or do I need to buy an outboard USB Soundcard and set it up that way. I already have a Belkin High Speed USB 2.0 for the Laptop, if I do not use it it the USB is a 1.0 I think.
I want to lay down some basic tracks a bass track some drums and a one vocal and guitar track here at home and then transfer them to the laptop so when I go to Texas I can I can get do some more recording for lead guitar, steel, Piano and some hot fiddle and so on.
I really appreciate the help and input folks....this is a great forum.

Why don't you like the 192 for recording?

I don't have the 192 yet I had a Soundblaster Audigy2 installed there was some noise and the quality of the sound was not there. For once in my life I wanted to do it right and I was told to get the M-Audio 192. As I said it should be here on Tuesday and then I can do some vocal recording and see what happens. It should be head and shoulders above the Audigy2 card.floyd wrote:Why don't you like the 192 for recording?

I will let y'all know how the 192 did. Of course being a newbie I can only speak in limited terms not having the experience most of you do.

Oh ok, I misunderstood. Yes, the audigy sucks for recording. You'll love the 192 - I have the 2496 and the recording is very clean, especially for the price.

You guys are making me drool all over my keyboard. Now I probably won't be able to sleep until it gets here and I install it.
Is this a great country and what wonderful resources. Only could happen in the free world.
I went and downloaded the Quick Start Guide and Owners Manual for the M-Audio 192 and it sounds like I am going to be in heaven.
The M-Audio 192 is an upgrade from the 2496 with the claim that it is a step up built on the quality and success of the 2496 (my words there). Thanks for the response and like I said I will let you all know what I think after I record a couple of vocals and listen to them.
I guess I am going to have to have to save some money so I can buy the boxed version of Tracktion2 and get the vst plug ins along with the rebate. Bummer I was thinking they came with the free upgrade on the download. Oh well that is what I get for thinking. That means that I won't be able to complete the project until I get the vst plug ins to do the tweaking.
Still great software and recording is great.

One of the big differences for me was that the 192 uses balanced connectors compared to the 2496. With the 2496 I had to make psuedo balanced cables to cut down on line noise (on some machines an internal card can pick up noise from fans, graphics cards etc., with mine it was the disk drives) but with the 192 you can just use stereo jacks. In addition there is a sound quality improvement over the 2496.
