Could Tracktion flush RAM between loading edits?

Some edits won't load the soundfonts when opening after previously loading a song that has used alot of RAM. If I load the edit first, no problem.

Basicaly I have to close T and open it again when opening certain edits that have large soundfonts.

So, could T flush the RAM before opening an edit?

I have the same problem and look forward to a better solution but my workaround is to use a ram defrag program. Here is the one I use:

I tried a RAM utility thing and it caused as many issues as it solved :(

does this happen with other hosts? Shouldn't the soundfont player vst - not the host -be repsonsible for freeing up any memory that it uses?

Not sure, but just saying it *could* be a plug-in issue, and not a problem with Tracktion itself.

Post

the host should be responsible for closing all plugins and clearing all ram used imo.

Post

How is the host supposed to know what RAM a plugin uses?

Post

I'm not overly familar with the VST standard, but unless the plugin tells the host what memory it's using (and i don't think it does), i don't see how its possible for the host to free it up.

Unless of course, tracktion isn't closing the plugins properly... which is possible.

how do you know that tracktion doesnt clear ram?

hm - maybe by calling the appropriate vst-function?

Or doesn't this exist? :?

Post

I don't know the VST standard well enogh to know. Is there a function call that allows the host to ask a plugin what RAM it is using?

And if there is such a function, does every plugin support it correctly?

I don't know the answer to any of the vst ram stuff, but I do know that the little utility I listed will let me load a soundfont in sfz after it has faild for lack of memory.

agreed it was suggested by rene who dev'ed it ;D
