Final Mix distorting in T2 latest ver.

Generally happy with T2. But Final mix distorts very badly at all volume levels, regardless of the volume going in. All presets do the same. (Worked OK in original T2 before the update).

Happens as a global effect or a per-track effect.

I have been using the Stereo Compressor instead which works fine, but it's a simpler beastie and I miss my Final Mix.

Anybody else having this problem?

I don't recall them mentioning that Final Mix had been changed! This is the second such report, though, so I suppose I should wander off and check it for myself.

A few of us have been having these problems since the latest upgrade. And yes it has only been an issue with Final Mix for me. In my situation, I have an unfinished song (needs just a couple more guitar parts towards the end) and in the meantime I have been horsing around with some pre-mixing on it using Final Mix and a couple other plugs at the master output. Before the latest T2 update my renderings were just fine, but since the update I have had all sorts of pops and clicks when rendering. Weird. I changed nothing from before the update until now. There is definitely something going on with Final Mix. Hopefully it will get sorted out promptly because I really like that plug.

You should probably all check you have just one Final Mix .dll between all your scanned folders.. not sure what to suggest otherwise, it seems fine to me. :?

Have you tried the Mackie 3-band compressor? Its almost as powerful as the Final Mix compressor, but is easier to set up (the cross-over is simpler).

This is also happening to mine as well. Sounds like permanent clipping or something odd - it is present always.

Could you upload an archive demonstrating the problem, and an audio file of the distortion you hear? FM seems to be working ok for me.. :?

Post

Ok, so i had a song with lots of reason rewired instruments, and for final effects, a voxengo reverb and a final mix in that order.

I've reduced this to just a simple ditty using a dx10, the tracktion reverb and final mix and this seems quite reproducable on my machine.

If i turn off either reverb or final mix, the crackling goes away.

I can render these out if you wish, plus if saving just the edit is useful enough, i can send that too - what files are useful here? and where would I upload it?

Well, if you can make an archive that always distorts in the way you describe, testing it on my machine might tell us whether it is a system specific problem, a bug with FM that I haven't found myself, or simply user error. (no offence, but FM is capable of distorting the signal quite badly if set up wrong)

If I can't reproduce the distortion, or Im not sure if what Im hearing is what you meant, an audio file might help.. does the crackling appear in exported files, or only during playback? If its just during playback try using TapeIt to record the crackles..

I was hoping you might have some web space you could upload it too.. if not you can always mail it to me (platinumears<at>hotmail<dot>com) if its not too big.

Got it. Working at the moment, I'll let you know..

Ok, just imported your archive: works perfectly here. Whatever the problem is, it seems to be system specific.. you mac or pc? What does the cpu meter say when the audio distorts?

Post

Maybe 20%, possibly not even that much. Doesnt happen when theres not a reverb in front of it (even the hardware based EMU reverb). Doesnt happen if i move the reverb after the final mix either. Doesnt happen with a delay in front, phaser, compressor or anything else.

Happens only with a reverb - and happens with any reverb - tried generic, voxengo pristine space, ambience, EMU PatchMix.

In trying it with voxengo oldsckoolverb, the static can be reduced to zero with going with a fully dry signal (i'm sure others would be the same here as well).

Really seems only to be on the release trails.

if it wasn't for the low CPU reading I'd bet money on it being a denormalisation issue.

Does it happen if you render a track?

What CPU are you using?

I get a fast crackling sound out of the right channel only....and half a problem ain't better than none.
