Where is the best/optimum place to store Eve and DK+ data? In the VST folder with the DLLs or on a separate audio drive?

Hi relayer. In my opinion there isn't a "best place" to store the plugins data.

I prefer keeping the data in the vst folder, but some (and for good reasons) prefer to store them in a separate drive.
Some prefer another drive for disk space reason, some because their second/third drive performs better than the one with the vst folder/software, so it takes less time to load the samples.
Keeping the data in the vst folder may also increase the startup time of the sequencers.

In general, I find it better to keep samples off of your C: drive for better performance. I leave my C: drive for things like programs, my D: drive for samples and an external firewire drive for recording audio.

Thanks Aldo. That's where I have the data now. But for some reason I keep thinking that I read somewhere that startup is faster if the data is kept on the audio drive. It must be the late night hallucinations.

You are absolutely right, because each time a sequencer starts it has to scan for new plugins. The more files in the vst folder the longer the time it takes.
If I said the opposite sorry...

But as I said I prefer to keep all the vst stuff in the vst folder... makes easier to keep track of all the files on my hard drives

i tried moving the DK+ library to my samples folder but when i loaded the DK+ up, i couldn't load any of the kits or patterns. the menu button also didn't respond. obviously there must be a way to change the location of the library but the way i tried doing it is not the way. any sugestions?

That's how I did it:
First I copied my sample data folder to a new location, then
1. I opened DK+
2. clicked on the MENU button
3. clicked on the preferences option
4. browsed to my new sample data folder and selected it
5. deleted the old sample data folder

Everything worked just fine

sorted. it turns out that i didn't have the lastest version installed and the older version didn't let you change the library location. cheers.

I keep my EVE data separate from my VST plugins because I run multiple hosts, and keep separate plugin folder trees for each. I then move plugins in and out of these trees for the hosts as I need them. This way, I just copy the EVE DLLs into the necessary places without copying all the data. But if you only ever use one VST plugin directory, it's probably not worth the bother putting the data elsewhere.
