I have no experience with it, but an acquaintance of mine from the CM/FM forum used it to gradually cross-fade a guitar sample into a feedback sound. So if he was doing a 'guitar solo' on his keyboard and held a note there, it would eventually sound like it was feeding back.

Pretty spiffy! Also made for one of the only realistic sounding keyboard-guitar solos I've ever heard!

Depending on the synth it can be used to control a whole load of different things - ideally you can select exactly what you want it to control (brightness, volume, LFO frequency, pitch bend etc.) . Really its just another controller, and non-polyphonic aftertouch isn't really something that couldn't be replicated using the pitch wheel (or a pedal). But to me, at least, its just far more natural, and convenient, to be able to use the keys themselves to do it (especially if you're using 2 hands to play!)

Polyphonic aftertouch allows this on a per-note basis, and while i have no direct experience of it, this is obviously much more flexible. Unfortunately, you can't seem to get hold of keyboards that support this these days :(

I used to use aftertouch when I had a KB that supported it to increase brightness on organ patches and stuff, increase volume, modulate something other than the mod wheel setting, bend notes, switch between oscilators, etc. It's pretty cool and T should support it IMO. If you want to record live keyboards and you have it set up right, it can be extremely cool. You can tweak most stuff in automation later though, so it depends on your playing style.
Tracktion should support it. My keyboard has aftertouch and now I cannot use it. It is not as important as the modwheel, but it is the same in concept as Tracktion not supporting recording of modwheel. It is rather inexplicable that Tracktion does not support AT when it supports just about any other midi cc message.

Does seem strange that it wouldn't support AT, but I would imagine it would be a fairly simple addition for Jules. Maybe then I can dust off my K2000 and use it for the first time in a couple of years :-)

There's a workaround for the aftertouch issue, search this forum to find it!

My old SQ-80 had polyphonic aftertouch. That was cool.
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

HI

Lets take a balanced view about SX and Logic though - I have used them both at length and to be fair the most basic kind of midi editing operations that you take for granted in those hosts are totally absent in Tracktion .... a FULL screen edit page (I don't mean a large edit page - I really do mean the whole bloody screen), edit similar midi event command, automatic midi event colouring to indicate velocity, a sensible way to input/erase events (what is wrong with Logics right mouse click=input midi event - left mouse click=erase event, I have mentioned a way I think T2s midi editing could be enhanced (an IMO!) in another thread - that bloody translucent piano-roll that comes up in Tracktion is SERIOUSLY annoying and seems to flicker on and off at random and is a hinderance, screen sets, dual monitor support, dual cpu support, decent expand/contract audio alogrithem, you can't even save FXP pre-sets (in T2) in your synth that can be read by another host!! .... Seriously!!!

The list goes on - personally I would settle for a couple of modifications to the midi side of things, I do Like T2 a lot though ... I jumped on T1 just as talk of T2 started to filter through and although T1 knocked me back by it's ease I have to say the T2 has missed the boat BIG TIME and has pretty well taken the program nowhere from MY perspective of how I would use it.

I truely hope that a major up-date to the midi side of things is incoming soon, unfortunately I think the program will ultimately suffer because the original concept of keeping to 1 screen for everything will hinder it - certainly dual monitor support gains nothing if all you do is stretch that screen over 40".

I agree that Logic and SX are quite a challenge but I have to say that having used T1/2 for several months I AM NOT finding it a touch on the productivity that I had with Logic, and this has effected my creativity as well - primarilly because I do lots of intricate midi work and T2 for all its positives is backward in this department ... for my use anyway.

No, those programs have a depth that T2 can't touch and that is reflected in the price - what T2 has and needs to build on is the fact that everything is in 1 place and that results in a time saving, compare the fact that you have to load a vst up in a rack within SX and then you need to click on a midi track, load the vst up in the inspector and allocate a midi channel - this is where Tracktion is king - BUT that time saving is worth nothing if you loose it else where ... but I do agree that these kind of time saving issues make a mega difference, especially if your a bit of a rookie with SX.

Just some thougts - I have to keep knocking on the door about how I would like to see Tracktion develop!

Flipper.

I don't want T to monkey with the single window paradigm - its what brought me to T and I like it.

that said yes a lot of stuff could be enhanced on the MIDI side:some nice editing options from DP: scale time, fix to time code, reverse, invert, and scale mapping.

And the piano roll popping up is screwy - I would prefer a non modal editing - ie you can grab notes once they're big enough - if there is a way to get rid of the toolbar that would be great - left click add right click erase option-drag is a line - it can all be done without tools which go against the design of T imho.

Why not allow for Traction to use the tab metaphore with a dedicated full screen Midi Editor? Also expand the capabilities of T2 by allowing T2 to use dual monitor setups based on tab drags? You drag the tabbed window you want onto the second monitor and back again?

Anyway, you can use the second monitor for wave editing on a seporate program or maybe move your VST's accross? Haven't played enough with it to fully realise it's limitataions but hey, at least I was able get a grip and start creating music in less than half an hour. Not so with Logic 5 or Cubase SX. ;)
Leave ones footprint in that of the mind not the physical world. We have screwed it over enough.

I love Cubase and I think it is a great program.

I may not be a Phyicist but I do have a doctorate in Molecular Biology and I never could get used to Cubase. Logic just scared me off completely.
I'm not following how your Bio education is supposed to help you with music production software, any more than a degree in music (or software engineering) would help you get a PCR to run properly in your bio lab.
