yes, I guessed so as Jules used loads of free algos he found while browsing the web when developing Tracktion - the time-stretching algo is another example - however there are many plugins using this algo (e.g. the RGC reverb as well) and most of them are very different from each other! ;-)

Wow, no consensus here at all.

What about altiverb? I thought that was supposed to be "the best"?
You seem to be "out of luck" like Billy Bob was out of luck when Angelina was riding his face. --Pough

eh? Altiverb is just another convolution reverb...

So altiverb sounds like a good choice for a powermac guy like me, or would the money be better spent on a hardware reverb you think?

You would need to spend a lot of money on hardware to get near the sound quality of a convolution plug with a good impulse.. I would only really consider it if real-time use were a priority, as convo verbs usually have some latency.. I don't know Altiverb, but no-latency convolution tends to munch cpu cycles.

Post

well I'm gonna sound like a fanboy now.... but I usually do so....

the W2 can be run at ZERO latency and is very usable... (not in FLStudio though) but using Tracktion it only eats about 15% which is high but okay for a non latency convo verb

it uses 5% when using only the AIR algo which is not to be underated, too

I just watched the altiverb movie and my mind is BLOWN. Incredible product. Anybody want to guess how many instances of altiverb I could get on a g5 dual 2.0 using T2? (I don't know if RAM is a factor, but I've got 4.5 GB)

Doesn't it depend on the impulse? Long impulses use more cpu..
