What would be really cool is if you could click notes on the fretboard, and the name of the key would appear, and then you could play around with it, along with just picking the key and sequencing.

yes, that's a part of the aim.MadPsyance wrote:This seems like it may be a practical tool to show how music theory applies to guitar...for those who have stared at a piano roll for too long. I think it's a great idea...expecially if I've written a piece on my guitar and I want to translate it fast to midi without dealing with a piano roll...which I guess might be the purpose of this.
Is this gonna be freeware or at least cheap...now you'd have my attention!
and it'll be donationware.
though i don't think I'll recieve much money...

I'm not sure to understand you well...MadPsyance wrote:What would be really cool is if you could click notes on the fretboard, and the name of the key would appear, and then you could play around with it, along with just picking the key and sequencing.
but i will add a "no chord" (single notes) bank too, with variations making the note go up.
for instance :
"c" "no chord" var1 = c2
"c" "no chord" var2 = c3
etc.
you can sure click notes on fret board and see them !
what do you mean? appear where?
actually, the main fret board is to show, alter, create chords and store them. then, you choose what you want on the sequencer, as it shares the same chords bank.
but clicking the fretboard, you don't hear it...
but i probably could implement that, and make a "hear note on click / don't hear" it switch...

I would be very interested in this!
I agree with strunk that it is surprising that a cross-platform product that will work with user samples hasn't surfaced yet. (On the PC there's Rhythm 'n Chords and on Mac there's granted Remidi… Real Guitar can't use external samples. Anything else?) I assume from the scroll bar that it is Mac compatible, right? Also, funk is my main interest, so I'd like strums and chord types that worked in this style.

Shmoe, Kontakt 2 will work with user samples. But of course it won't work with other synths.
Mokafix, this is looking like a great idea. Being a guitar player myself I probably won't need or use it, but for non guitarists it could be a great thing.

Sascha,
I'm sorry, but do you mean external samples in terms of a guitar strum emulator? BTW, has anyone figured out how to use the Real Guitar with other sounds. The midi files seem only to be for triggering the strums in RG.

it's synthedit, so i guess it's not mac compatible.Shmoe wrote:I assume from the scroll bar that it is Mac compatible, right? Also, funk is my main interest, so I'd like strums and chord types that worked in this style.

(start synthedit flame here...)
errhhh...Barf wrote:Great idea! Some funky strums for me please
funky strums?
can somebody tell me what are the caracteristics of a funky strum?
in fact you'll ba able to set :
- single notes
- 2,3,4,5,6 notes chords (2 notes don't make a chord, I know...)
- relative distance between notes in a chord.(strum settings)
- velocities of each note of a chord
- main velocity of the chord
so i guess you can do whatever you want with that.
it's not a midi loop player.
but user should be able to reproduce any loop. otherwise, I'll have failed in my holy mission.

No. We're not funky enuf!can somebody tell me what are the caracteristics of a funky strum?
And don't forget about muted strums or chops. You know that sound when guitarists wannabe the drummer. Or at least the snare.
And what would be really cool is a Rasqueado preset.
Great Idea! Can we expect the beta on Monday?

I think this can be done by choosing the length and the soundsmandolarian wrote:

but maybe not by the strumming itself.

muted strums or chops depends on the sampler or guitar synth you use, i think.
I said i'll put external midi cc controls too (2 or 3).
example :
if you use revitar, you can choose the midi cc that controls "palm muting" (13 or 15, as far as i remember) and here you go!
my plug only sends midi.
And I don't remember seeing a "chop" midi cc in default midi maps...
what i'm thinking right now is : will a 16 steps sequencer be enought to make anything properly?
anyway, if one want a note between to step, just make a new "chord" with to notes, and set rate so that second notes fall where you want.
I think i'll add tempo sync for all rates too.
