I don't know if this is a File structure issue, or what?

I've now got the full version of CDXtract.
It saves + exports the Akai program as .nki files ~ this is good.
It exports the samples as .wav files ~ this is good.

Rick @ Muse said:
On the Receptor hard drive look at Hard Drive\Samples\Native Instruments\Kompakt\Library
Inside the Library directory is the .nks files and then there are two directories mutlis and instruments

All you should need to do is duplicate this process

Create your own directory in the Sample directory; call it My Kompakt, inside this directory create another called instruments. Copy your .nks files to My Kompakt and copy the other files as sub directories of instruments.
I’ve tried 6 or 7 times to do what Rick has described below. I’ve become frustrated; this is a very obvious function, importing existing patches.
I’ve read the PDF manual for Kompact; I’ve read the PDF for CDXtract;
I’m not new to this type of technology but @$#%!!!

I must be doing something wrong.
Following Rick’s instructions, I tried creating a folder called My Ninstruments, to hold a folder: Vocals> GOSP WHOAS A.nki

*A possible problem might be that on my Mac, when I go to File>Get Info, it seems to have defaulted to Personal Orchestra as the application to open it.
I’m not sure how to handle that _ if it’s the problem.
(I recently installed GPO on my Mac, for work in Logic)

I also placed a folder called Whoa Samples, inside one called My Kompact, inside the Samples folder on Receptor.
These ended up being converted to .wav files; they’re seen and played when I click the audition/speaker button on Kompact.

The problem is, I don’t want to individually grab each sample, and place it over individual keys (for the record ~ that works)
I want to load complete Patches, as Instruments I suppose, and have them play as they did on an AKAI, or when imported to
EXS24 or on my Roland XV-5080.

Please, SOMEBODY, help me figure this importing situation out.
It’s why I purchased Kompact.

In the folder Vocals create a subfolder called "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" Copy all the .wav files needed for "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" in this subfolder.

In Kompakt click on "BROWSER" The browser will open on the left side (you probably have done this already). In the top half of the browser navigate to c:/Samples/My Ninstruments/Vocals. Make sure you select "Vocals" by clicking on the text. If you click nect to the text it will not select it. In the bottom half of the browser you should see "GOSP WHOAS A.nki"

_If_ you click on the "+" to the left of "Vocals" you will see the subfolder "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" If you select the subfolder you will see all your .wav files in the bottom half. THAT IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO. You should not go to the .wav files. You should have "Vocals" selected in the top half of the browser so that you can see "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" in the bottom half of the browser.

Drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" to one of the 8 instrument slots. If you started with an empty Kompakt you should see "1: EMPTY" That is where you need to drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" not over the keyboard.

When you drag "GOSP WHOAS A.nki" over an instrument slot, it is very likely that you will get a dialog saying that a sample cannot be found. Click on the "Find" button, then in the open dialog navigate to "GOSP WHOAS A Samples" and select the .wav file that Kompakt could not find. You should see the file name that you need to select in the field "File Name." After you click "Open" another dialog will ask you if you want to use the same path for the remaining samples. Click "Yes"

If everything goes according to plan you should have now the entire instrument loaded. Now click on the "SAVE" button to the left side of the instrument name that is displayed towards the top right corner. This is the save for Instrument, not the save for Multi. Save the instrument with a different name, or if you are brave you can save it with the same name over the original instrument file ("GOSP WHOAS A.nki").

Let's save you saved it as "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" Now you can start from scratch to test that it works. Open the browser, navigate to "Vocals" and drag "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" over an instrument slot. Now it should load without asking to you find the samples.

You need one last step. After you loaded "GOSP WHOAS A2.nki" click on the "Save/File" button at the very top right of the screen. This is the button for Receptor patches, outside of the GUI for Kompakt. Create a new bank called "Vocals" and save a new patch called "GOSP WHOAS A" Now you can load this patch from the front panel, via MIDI program change, or from the MIX view of the GUI for Receptor.

Once you load this Receptor patch, you can save a new Receptor Single, or a new Receptor Multi that contains this patch and it will load the right samples at the right key ranges.

If you still have problems, PM me with your phone number and a good time to call and someone from Muse will call you.

Dan ~ thank you so much.
It worked. I was putting the samples elsewhere.
I'm not ready to create Receptor Singles or Multis; I'm trying to methodically become extremely confident with all aspects of how I'll set-up Receptor for my live shows.
As you can see, I'm digging into Kompact.

While experimenting with your directions, I created 2 of the same instruments; both are in the Kompact>Library>instruments folder.
Except one set (.nki + samples) is where I want it, inside the Vocal Folder, and the other is just on it's own, in the instruments folder.
I'm not allowed to delete it ~ I 'do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items.'
How can I delete this unwanted duplicate?
