Crazy wacked scripting plugin idea for Tracktion

This is probably a waste of time but it's an interesting concept - at least to me. Imagine a scripting plugin that you could use to send key commands to Tracktion so that you could jump to time markers and do other dumb tricks. Kind of like a Bome's MIDI translator run by script controlled by the plug. Get it?

Code: Select all

WHAT YOU TYPE IN THE PLUG AS SCRIPT WHAT HAPPENS

10 after 0 beats send 2 Tracktion jumps to marker 2
20 after 1 beat send r Tracktion starts recording
30 after 10 bars (40 beat's ?) send 2 Tracktion stops and jumps to 2
40 after 1 beat send space Tracktion plays what you recorded
50 after 10 bars send 4 Tracktion stops and jumps to marker 4
60 after 1 beat send r Tracktion now records at marker 4
70 after 3 bars send 4 Tracktion stops and jumps to marker 4
80 after 1 beat send space Tracktion plays what you recorded
90 after 3 bars send space Tracktion stops playback
100 after 1 beat send control-s Tracktion saves
110 after 1 bar goto 10 It starts all over
You start script play by pushing the plugin's "run" button. Plugin also has a "stop" button.

SHORT HAND?

The above script might be entered as

Code: Select all

10 0 bt 2
20 1 bt r
30 10 br 2
40 1 bt space
50 10 br 4
60 1 bt r
70 3 br 4
80 1 bt space
90 3 br space
100 1 bt control-s
110 1 br goto 10
THE SYNTAX

always a time (in beats, bars, seconds)
send (key stroke)
got (line)

PROBLEMS I ANTICIPATE

- latency issue
- ugly audio artifacts during a jump
- no way to render results
- no way to record output
- avoiding getting stuck in a loop

Rock,

Are what you are asking for is a pattern sequencer; so that one can construct songs as a series of patterns? If so, I think that's in the FR list. I'd rather not have to code it, to be honest.

Yeah, you could do it with something like Bome's and MIDI Ox.

The problem with the plugin idea is simply:
- ugly audio artifacts during a jump
I actually tried osmethign like this ages ago with the original MKey (before I lost the code), and (at least with T1) the jump was nasty.

I'd be much happier with those marker tails thing we suggested long ago for Tracktion itself, just thought this was an interesting concept. I guess it could be useful if you were in the other room doing vocals and wanted tracktion to do some skipping around to record in different spots. Again just an idea. :)
