I´m 53 and still rocking ! Rocking is good for your health; working absolutly not and living is dangerous : it kills you in the end ! Now shut up and play yer guitar some more ! :hihi:

I thought you could be old as the street and still be in a rock band. To be 65 and be in "Scooter" or "Alice Deejay" seems way more off...

Yeah, I know, I was lazy. I'll pick something else.

Actually, today, we have young "female rock bands". And "old male rock bands". An "old female rock band" would feel quite off, as it is today. When todays rocking girls are old it hopefully will be a bit more common.

So, basicly, if the artist is way older than the genre he och she is performing it'd feel off. But we'll soon enough have plenty of electro/hiphop/metal acts well over their 50's since they were in their 20's when they got into the stuff.

And the girls are catching up as well.

It's all good. Perform whatever music you want to perform, regardless of age. Who seriously cares? Who's gonna blame you for being too old, and why should you care about that person? :)

Let me tell you the story of my brother, Paul.

He lives in a cottage in the wilds of Herefordshire with his partner, Valerie.

Paul has played acoustic guitar and sung all his life, but for a "job" he's worked in the travel business.

Since 9/11 the travel business has been hit badly, and first he was made redundant, and then he found it difficult to get another job - unless he wanted to move to Birmingham, or some big city.

To cut a long story short, this year aged 50, Paul decided to become a full time Muso because, like many of us here, music has always been the great love of his life.

He's busked a lot around the world, but not done many professionally paid gigs.

Now he's singing in one or two pubs a week, and has 3 pupils that he teaches guitar too.

He's built all this up this year from nothing.

By the end of the year he aims to have two gigs a week and half a dozen pupils. This should bring him enough dosh to manage.

Mum thinks he's a "taking an awful risk", but she does understand "the music thing".

But Paul is making it work.

He's 50 and has the confidence to go and do the thing he wants to do, which is to earn a living as a gigging musician, and manage a string of pupils.

Good for him, eh :D

Is that even possible? I certainly wouldn't have thought so, especially if you're a Gothapotamus.

My daughter is 25. And what does she listen to? Doors, Zappa, Velvet Underground...

Does she like my music? Nope, she doesn't. She hates electronic music.

Should I be worried, doctor?
Eventually something intelligent will appear written here. Watch this space.

You are never too old to do what you love, if you can still do it physically, but as a high school teacher and rapidly aging rocker, I can tell you that most teens assume you have to be about 150 years old to play in a rock band. They may still love the music, but a lot of it is nostalgia for a "simpler time" that never existed.
