Yeah I remember being 15 and somehow someone gave me a copy of Symphony or Damn, it became the soundtrack to all the pathetic school based romances for a while..it's actually a good album, if you see it for 5 pound or under go for it!!... (this was nestled into the steady diet of Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest, NWA, Ice Cube etc...) Ok that's it.
I agree; TTD was a wasted talent. Like Prince (around the same time), he just got too introspective to keep the audiences coming back. Too bad.

There's this one song on the Vibrator album - Holding on to You - that blows me away every time I hear it. Dunno if it's a cover (Van Morrison?), but if only he'd kept it up, eh.

Yeah, that's a great song - don't think it's a cover...he's too egotistical for that! Did you know he's changed his name to "Sananda Maitreya"? Weird. I think I still like "Wishing Well" the best; just a classic, R&B pop song.

I was just reading about the name thing. Definitely not too stable a lad. One of the best voices I've ever heard though.

I watched "Benny and Joon" for the first time in ages the other night - made me remember the Proclaimers. They looked like they would make it big at one point but then just faded away.

Crack the Sky Baltimore-area band, revered by us locals. Hits such as Surf City, Lighten Up McGraw, She's a Dancer, Flashlight, and the live version of Rangers At Midnight keep this band selling out every reunion show they put on, some 20 years after they broke up.

Their big mistake? Signing with CashWest, who mangled Jim Croce's career.

...and anyone who manages to get the verb "to haver" into a song surely deserves greatness.

I wouldn't judge anyone on the strength of their most commercially successful single - unless you think "Hi ho silver lining" is a true reflection of Jeff Beck's output of course.

I had it on cassette around '84.

It was a whiteish cover with a very close up side on picture of Howard on the front!! I had it on cassette - don't think it has come out on CD - but was pretty good from what I can remember. I must hunt it down - it's probably in my box of cassettes that has not seen the light of day since I last wore white shoes!
