Sorry to keep this thread OT but i have to ask: i get a strong feeling most people posting here hates (and i mean *really* HATES) disco. - Like saying BeeGees never were disco as to protect them?
What's so bad about disco? I personally love 70-style disco.
I was too young in the 70's to appreciate the music back then, but my father bought loads of disco albums, as well as ABBA (of course, im from Sweden) Sabbath, Dr. Hook etc. In Sweden it was totally acceptable, no one ever wore any "I hate disco" -shirts. Why hate?

On the contrary. I spent my formative teen years as a HUGE fan of '70s dance music; most of which didn't get exposed to most of the public. Underground music will always have a certain type of flavor.pepelogu wrote:Sorry to keep this thread OT but i have to ask: i get a strong feeling most people posting here hates (and i mean *really* HATES) disco. - Like saying BeeGees never were disco as to protect them?
Saying the Bee Gees isn't real disco is not to protect the Bee Gees, it's to protect true disco. The Bee Gees SNF tunes, while very well produced songs, were typical of songs overly commercialized people jumping on the disco bandwagon.
Again I urge you to check out mixes on the DeepHousePage for what I'm talking about. Now that's disco.

This is one of the most brilliant responses to a typo I've seen around here in awhile... Well done!

Except that Disco (as much as I never liked it) was more interesting and creative.
I'd better get out of here!
I use the term dance music to incoporate more than just disco. As I stated earlier their were songs that are included in my dance music category by artitsts/groups that weren't typically in the disco/dance genre:
B-52s
Talking Heads
The Police
Ian Dury
Queen
The Crusaders
George Duke
James Brown
Doobie Brothers
Most of these you wouldn't associate with disco but have a number of cuts that fit into the dance music landscape. Lots of rock, jazz, funk, gospel and soul.

Question for those who say the Bee Gees didn't perform disco music: Is mulletmeister Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart" country music?

I don't have any real knowledge of country music, so I have no clue.Meffy wrote:

The only two genres you need: 'Shite' and 'Other'.
Billy Ray is 'Shite'. Bee Gees is 'Shite'. Limp Bizkit is 'Shite'.
Much simpler that way.

Would that make "Simpson's Christmas Boogie" disco? I thought it won a Grammy in the Heavy Metal category.AdInfinitum wrote:The easiest test to determine if a song is "disco" is if it has the word "BOOGIE" in it. For example, BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE is disco, BOOGIE NIGHTS is disco, BOOGIE FEVER is disco. But, Stairway To Heaven is not. There, wasn't that easy.
But wait, what about BOOGIE WITH STU??? Damn, there goes my theory. It was such a good theory.
Um....

Answer: I personally did not say that the Bee Gees didn't perform disco music, I said they do not represent the true essence of disco. Not being a big country fan, I couldn't possibly comment on The Mullet, but I bet a die hard country fan would consider him in the same light as a die hard disco fan would consider the Bee Gee'sMeffy wrote:Question for those who say the Bee Gees didn't perform disco music: Is mulletmeister Billy Ray Cyrus' "Achy Breaky Heart" country music?
