Let me start off by saying that I love hiphop. I produce it, write it, love it. Although I enjoyed the movie and love hiphop there is no need to like hiphop or to even think that it is a movie ALL about hiphop, because frankly its not. Hustle and Flow is really about the struggle for mankind to leave a legacy. Because you can look up a plot summary at numerous places on the internet I will just give the pros and cons.

Pros:
[] Acting was superb, especially the part of D-Jay played by Terence Howard
[] It was very well written
[] The music in it was well thought out

Cons:
[] Some of the beatmaking scenes just didn't cut it... for instance they were recording to tape... and I don't mean DAT, but they had a pro mixing board (its just hard to believe that these dudes have a pro mixing board and MPC and no HD recorder or CD burner). Not only that but they had obvious inserts (chorusing, reverb, and compression) on their vocals but no hardware effects and they didn't use a computer so I know they had no software effects either.
[] Its not the kind of movie you could take your kids to. Its filled with profanity and violence... much like some rap music.

So basically I recommend this movie to anyone who is not familiar with Southern hiphop or loves southern hiphop, and if you're one of those ppl that just doesn't like hiphop at all then most likely you will at least enjoy the plot and acting. :)

PEACEEEEEEEEE
