Whats the best way to do a final master using Tracktion??
I always set the output to -3db but is there anything else that would give the mix a final polish??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Why -3db? I always set mine to -0.5 or so. 
The question you have asked is very broad, though, and there could be a whole book or library of books dedicated to answering that very question.
Some manner of multi-band compression is often used by people, though I don't do it myself unless it's part of a Final Mix preset (and I don't always use FM on a track). I do my very best to address most EQ and compression issues in the mix, and then use a straight-up Master Limiter and very little else at the end of my signal chain.

If you haven't played with the presets in Final Mix, then you should get off line right now and go try some of them out. Pay attention to how the various settings get changed and you can learn a great deal about tweaking the mix EQ and multi-band dynamics.

I do use Final Mix too but I can never work out what preset to use or whever I should use my own settings in FM. I just wondered how everybody else did it.
Just looking for advice on the best way to get a final mix done.-

use buzroom's limiters and compression, the free ones. make sure you route everything out as i have noted in my other post, make sure you eq everything properly (subtractively) separately and check using voxengo span on the master bus, and solo it as you go. The soloed eq'ed track will sound strange alone, but will sound perfect when mixed. Make sure that the master volume doesnt max over -6dB. then pop on a nice grancomp3 on the master bus and crank it up to -0.1dB.
