Hello all Tracktioneers!
Many times when I'm editing a midi- or audio-clip I wish it would be possible to select a filter on another track without the need to zoom out, or scroll up/down.
In other words, I just want to tweak a few settings of the filter and continue working on the clip. I guess this isn't a problem for those of you who use dual monitors, but I like the mobility that my laptop provides me...
Ok, here's what I've come up with:
alternative a)
Add a minimize icon to every filter.
Every filter that's minimized get it's own tab on the property panel. To open the filter again you just click the tab or press a shortcut that circulates around the tabs, almost like Alt-Tab in Windows.
alternative b)
Let every clip remember the first filter that was selected after the clip. This filter becomes the clip's "favorite-filter", and will show up as an extra tab on the property panel. To select it, click the tab or press a user defined shortcut. If you want to change the "favorite-filter" you select the clip, then another filter.
These ideas would also make it easier to select filters that are wrapped in racks IMO.
Well, what's the verdict folks?

I personally like the idea of being able to keep filters in their own tabs in the property panel, though I'm not sure if it should work like minimizing a window does, or if the tabs should show up there automatically. Automatically might be nice, but if you have a lot of plugins in your track (on clips or otherwise), it might get unmanageable quickly. Also, what about plug-ins that have their own windows? For native plugins this might be a good screen real estate saver for people who have only one display, and who work with lots of filters at once...
But I'm a multiple-display user. (I have three.) Something that would be even more useful for me would be the ability to open UI for native plugs in their own separate windows, and drag them to another display, and lock the window opened. I do this already with lots of non-native plugs, but sometimes I want to do the same with the Tracktion EQ, Low/Hi-Pass or even more important, a rack filter.
Thoughts?

Plug-ins that have their own windows would behave exactly like they do now. The extra tabs for such plug-ins would just serve as shortcuts that you could click on without doing any zooming or scrolling first.
Alternative a) could be limited to...say...4 filters, but alternative b) would only require
one extra tab.
I'm aware of the possibility to lock filters, but where do I hide them when I'm not using them?
