Receptor helps rock the house on Rockstar:INXS

The hit TV show Rockstar:INXS has captured the imagination of North America, quickly becoming one of the most watched shows on television. And Receptor is helping to rock the house, running plug-ins as part of keyboardist and Music Director Paul Mirkovich's rig.

In case you haven't seen the show, the famed rock group INXS is looking for a new lead singer. To that end, they have auditioned thousands of singers across the US and Canada, and brought the 15 top contestants back to Hollywood to compete for top honors: a chance to front INXS. Each contestant sings classic rock songs as well as covers of INXS tunes, with one contestant getting "voted off the island" each week. Guess its no surprise that Mark Burnett of Survivor fame produces the show, eh?

Music Director Paul Mirkovich (who has also been the MD for Cher and Janet Jackson) has assembled an amazing band, called, appropriately enough, The House Band, responsible for learning dozens of tunes that are sung by the contestants.

Such a task puts quite a strain on the band, requiring them to have instant access to sounds that make the tunes sound like the originals. With Receptor, Paul is able to instantly create textures and gain access to timbres at the click of the mouse, and used in concert with his Roland keyboards that complete his rig. He even uses it as his harmonica effects processor plugging a mic directly in to the instrument input on Wednesday's elimination round show, using Guitar Rig to get that blues harp sound!

Rockstar:INXS airs Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights on CBS in the US and Canada. Check local listings for air times, and check out Paul with his Receptor!

It's good to see Receptor getting out there...

...but it's gonna take me a while to reconcile the fact that you just used the word "imagination" in regard to reality TV viewers... :-o :D

Here's my take:

Its a show about MUSIC. (sigh of relief)
Its a helluva lot more interesting than some inane sitcom.
It beats the heck out of American Idol, IMHO! (your tastes may vary)
Again, it is not some brain dead sitcom!
The house band completely kicks ass!
and, of course, they're using Receptor.

To that end, I think its fair to say it captures people's imagination. I think the whole concept of "one day I'm a barrista in Chicago, and two months later I'm fronting INXS" is very imaginative. Kinda like winning the lotto with your own talent?

What can I say, I really like the show!

Sorry... I'm just a big fan of music shows on TV!

This TV Show is pathetic.

i don't give a f**k if they use Receptor or not.

I can't stand seeing minor celebrities frantically grabbing at their last 1.5 minutes of fame. It was bad enough that Jon Stevens and Terence Trent D'Arby fronted INXS after Micheal died... but then replacing him (again) with the winner of a reality TV show?

Surely the band have figured out by now that without him, they're nothing?

Spoken like a true Aussie (as am I), and, er, I agree.

Hey Hoffy.

And your preference for TV entertainment is... what? Everybody loves Raymond?

You are right, Hutchence was phenomenal, but I've been around the block a few times in the Music Biz, and I stick by my statements.

I'd rather watch a show about music than any other piece of dribble that comes out of H'wood, and any of the people on the show can sing circles around many of the bands I've played in...

Thanks. Actually, it is more and more "out there" but we cannot always talk about it. This show is one rare instance where we are allowed to brag.

I guess if you do see it on TV it's OK to mention it. Has anybody seen Garbage on Letterman a month or two ago? Receptor was very visible in their rack (you can also see it here: http://www.line6.com/media/email/pressp ... index.html ).

Many other artists and bands use Receptor, some more famous, some less famous, but we cannot always talk about it. However, if you see one, please do tell us. Maybe we should have a game like "Where's Waldo?" Who can spot more Receptors?

I don't mean to HiJack the thread, but how is Guitar Rig available on Receptor (I've seen it mentioned by Jordan Rudess and in the above PR statement)? Can you install it on 1.3 using the register-plugin method described in the 1.3 release notes for Kompakt?

Thanks,
Kevin L.

You are probably referring to the 1.3 release notes using Colossus from East/West as an example.

We will be releasing very soon a few installers using this method. Guitar Rig should be one of them. We will make an announcement.
