NUendo 3 user here..I love the program..powerful , huge, tons of features and expensive....
Just had a nice sitdown with the T2 demo and I am really amazed at the FUN it is bringing me... without cracking a manual I am doing things I usually need to sit in front of a manual to pull off... the audio editing is simple and effective .. I might have to pick this up as a second host..this would be my goto for quick ideas and tracking..
I can't help but have a silly shit eating grin while trying the demo...
anyone else make the switch from a fancy high dollar host to T2?

Right here, I switched from Nuendo 2. Tracktion is perfect for me. I record progressive rock, music with tons of tempo changes, it was a real workflow-stopper to do this in any other host besides Tracktion.

So what's the secret? I still can't get into Tracktion. I invariably switch back to Sonar after an hour or two of banging my head against T2 wall.

Really? From your other posts I thought you were having a great time with Tracktion...what is easier to do in Sonar?Beardedone wrote:So what's the secret? I still can't get into Tracktion. I invariably switch back to Sonar after an hour or two of banging my head against T2 wall.

I switched to Tracktion 2 from Sonar. I've been a loyal Cakewalk customer since the DOS days, but their user interface has gotten more and more complicated with each upgrade. Now, nothing ever works the way I expect, and I spent more time struggling with Sonar and looking things up in the manual than actually making music. Tracktion is a breath of fresh air, but certainly the MIDI capabilities aren't quite ready to compete with the big boys. There are quite a lot of MIDI things you can do in Sonar but not in Tracktion. Nevertheless, I am willing to forgo most of the power-user features in order to have Tracktion's simpler interface. However, the lack of a drum grid pattern editor in Tracktion is substantially holding me back.

From other posts BeardedOne has made, it seems he's never used tracktion to record or arrange audio. I'm not sure what he has used it for if that's truejplanet wrote:Really? But if it doesn't meet your needs ... use something else

Right I have yet to use it for audio recording. I am a midi Softsynth/sampler user mostly. I have been trying to use T2 for midi only for quite a while now and it is still not doing it for me like Sonar, Live 5 or FLStudio do. I much prefer to use Sonar to record audio - the bussing and the mixer are superb. I have gone through pHZ well put together descrition of hoe to route multitimbral VSTis and am dismayed at how convoluted it is to organize outputs. As I am using BFD and ST2 quite bit, so T2 is a big dissappointment having to spent ages to set up these up each time in T2. Oh well, it's no big deal T2 only cost me $20.jplanet wrote:

The thing is, Tracktion's big strength is it's friendly, easy to use audio recording and arranging (use / shortcut to cut a clip into two, slip edit the sides, drag-drop effects onto clips etc)
So maybe the reason you don't get why everyone likes Tracktion is because you're using it for the bits where it's still a bit behind some of the older sequencers? Like midi editting, and conventional bussing.
If you do record audio at all, i'd give T a shot, just in case you're pleasantly surprised. I certainly was, after using Sonar in the past

Question: Does anyone use T2 for mostly midi/VI stuff or is it mainly an audio host?

Mixed! But my demands for Midi are very low. A little basic editing is all I need for my VSTi's. And I never had a faster arranging tool for audio clips before!Beardedone wrote:Question: Does anyone use T2 for mostly midi/VI stuff or is it mainly an audio host?

i use t2 for both midi and audio in very demanding settings as a small project studio. I use it for mixing and mastering other studio's recordings, as well as my own. I converted from using adobe audition's multitrack, because I wanted midi and solid vst support... its a great program, and I didn't lose out because its a perfect companion to t2's external editing.

$20 bucks? Where did you find it for $20 bucks? My thing is, even if you don't like T2, you can't go wrong with the amount to Plugins you get.Beardedone wrote:Right I have yet to use it for audio recording. Speaking of audio editing, is there an easy way to non-destructively slip-edit all the silence off the edges of a clip? Or better yet, a way to automatically chop a clip into its non-silent constituent components?
