T2 product suggestions

hello, i have got a few suggestions to make this great piece of software even better for daily use:
1. PLEASE implement a new time stretch algorythm (mpex would be great). the actual time stretch is VERY poor.
2. when copying a clip, I should have the possibility to copy the clip´s automation with it. this is well solved f.e. in sony´s acid pro 5.
3. a draw pencil for drawing loops/clips (like in Acid Pro) would make it easier to implement loops into my work whereever I want.
4. Track folders are now Standard everywhere. Should also be in T2.
5. a mixer would be nice.
6. Clip-Muting would also be nice.
7. direct rendering of a rewired track would it make easier.
8. eh - an Arpeggiator....?
Even if not perfect, T2 is a great sequencing package with a revolutionary idea behind. Congratulations, Jules.

Not to criticise your desire, but a few comments of my own - there's no clip automation in tracktion, only track automation - it is possible to implement what you're talking about but it would have to be an option, not the default.mfkne wrote:hello, i have got a few suggestions to make this great piece of software even better for daily use:

Track folders? You mean project name/audio, or you talking about a special window within tracktion.
A mixer would be nice but goes against the single-window interface design , which I think is likely to stay - so you're out of luck, I believe.
There are several midi plugins which can do arpeggiation if that's what you're looking for?
Good luck-
Cheers,
MAtt

Thanks for the suggestions. Most we've heard before and will definitely keep them in mind.

I'm guessing he means that you can move any automation hitpoints (on the envelope) that fall within the bounds of the clip at the same time as moving the clip. I thought I had seen someone post a way of doing something like this in Tracktion on these boards?metamorphosis wrote:

No, track folders are special tracks that contain other tracks; it is essentially an organisational tool. If you have 5 or 6 tracks that are all drums, you can use a folder track to contain all these channels. Depending how it is implemented it can have various advantages...in Sonar for instance, it allows you to move multiple cross channel midi clips around by moving the 'overview' clip in the folder track, plus it also offers the ability to free up some screen space.Track folders? Don't see this myself. I have the same argument with Project5's lack of mixer...there is no reason why this cannot be added in such a way that people who don't want to use it never have to and that those who do want to, can have the option. Also, clicking on a VST plugin brings up a second window, as does the Quicktime facility (violating the one window ethos), so why couldn't a mixer work in a similar way?A mixer would be nice but goes against the single-window interface design , which I think is likely to stay - so you're out of luck, I believe.

The envelope side is quite interesting, but I havnt gone into it too far.
I like the idea of being able to, for T2 to be able to create the envelope of a wave, and then be able to assign that envelope to another wave.
Also, the envelopes should be able to follow the waves when stretched and unstretched, and as well the same whith changing pitch.

It's been asked for many times by people who don't really 'get' Tracktion, but it doesn't actually need a mixer. There's routing, racks and linear mixing that is intuitive. Why do you want to emulate an old piece of hardware in software? Computers are far more flexible and poweful....why not actually move away from the standard paradigms.mfkne wrote:hello, i have got a few suggestions to make this great piece of software even better for daily use:

You're definitely out of luck with the mixer. Tracktion is a non standard mixer application. But, it does have mixing in the truest sense of the word.
What exactly do you mean by clip muting? You can mute and solo any number of tracks already.
An Arpeggiator? There are already plenty that work in Tracktion. Try ERA for example. It works very well.Or you could just spend your hard earned on Live. It has an Arp inbuilt, but a very different beast to Tracktion.

thanks for your replies. perhaps you are right with the mixer. in the case of the arpeggiator I use the arpeggiator of energyXT, which I load in as a vsti. A bit complicated, but with good results. with clip muting I mean muting some clips in a track but not the whole track. because of the lack of track folders I want to keep all in sight and don´t want to get irritated by too many tracks. the most needed features in T2 in my opinion are: GOOD time stretch and copyable envelopes like described above. And, sure - track folders.
I tried Live before (as even all other sequencers for windows) - VERY goog app, but doesn´t make real fun to me. too.... cold. Doensn´t inspire me really. T2 is pure fun. Especially the option for direct rendering and vsti automation is great. But the time stretch problem mdrives me to load in Acid Pro 5 as a Rewire Client. If there was a good Algorythm in T2, I would not need Acid or other Apps anymore.

All of these are suggestions that have been mentioned before. I don't say that to belittle them-- au contraire, it's cool that so many of us are unified on what's needed in this program!!
The only one I'd really disagree with (and you've already responded to the comment) is the need for a mixer. Mixerless = lovely.
The old debate around here (which used to come up at least once a week, but it's been a while!) is that a 'normal' mixer could still be an option for the people who want it, and the rest of us can use the existing setup. On the "no mixer" side, most of us feel that we'd like the team of developers to work on things like your other suggestions (mpex or other timestretch, track folders) instead of spending time on something that's (in our view) an unnecessary "option" feature.
BUT, there are a great number of people who WOULD like to see a mixer. I'm not against it anymore, but knowing that I wouldn't use it myself, it's low on my list of personal wishes.

The problem is, a "normal" mixer is no-where near as flexible as Tracktion's method.. how then do you implement a "normal" mixer without losing the existing functinality? eg: multiple Vol controls on the same track.

Moving automation with clips isn't that much of a problem. Cut and paste work.
The REAL problem is having made the automation and then deciding that the tempo of the song isn't quit right.
When you change the tempo the automation doesn't change and has to be redone.
Talk about a workflow killer.

Second that. A general MIDI filter with various functions would be convenient. I know there are some but more could be added.mfkne wrote: 8. eh - an Arpeggiator....?

the 2nd volume control on a track could just show up as a filter plugin?
i mean the mixer would be useless if it dident also have access to the vst fx aswell
Oh & big wood looking GUI & real looking knobs & sliders and and .......

How about an "eager puppy" in the GUI, like on the Win XP search function?

I see your point - that does sound useful - so long as it doesn't complicate the interface it could potentially be beneficial-xylyx wrote: No, track folders are special tracks that contain other tracks; it is essentially an organisational tool.
