interesting thought: software developers could flood file sharers with bogus cracks of their program.

Using an SX crack isn't a smart move for a legit owner.
When SX moves up to SX4, do you want to wait 9 months for a crack to appear?
And remember how f**ked up the early SX3 cracks were.? They were rubbish.

I don't know why some give Steinberg such a bad rap...personally I think they come above many other competitors in terms of support. They release regular updates to cure known bugs, and at least they acknowledge bugs when they are found. Many other host devs don't even have a buglist! Up until recently Steinberg had a support forum even open to crack users. So you think all the other host are perfect hosts with no bugs, no deficiencies, and the developers are completely open to any and every suggestion/problem you have with their product...that's even funnier.ttoz wrote:
ok but in all seriousness, I would trust cracked code even less than steinbug, especially for malicious content.

he's so funny, isn't he?
And what's more, Steinberg have at least come up with a protection scheme that is relatively unintrusive and has managed to protect your product to a great degree - because it pisses me off no end that some thief can use it for free when I pay good money for mine. I have no problem with Steinberg's attitude. Unfortunately it goes wrong sometimes, and I sympathise with those for whom problems appear. But Steinberg generally will sort out a genuine problem for a genuine customer, even if it may take a bit of time.

the last studio I was working at in Texas, they had 3 registered versions of cubase bought from sam ash or something.. but long story short, some of the engineers began taking the dongles with them, or misplacing them, and after ordering one set of replacement dongles, then losing them again, someone downloaded the crack and just bypassed the protection on all the computers. It was some sort of dongle emulator I believe.
i'll spare you the huge banner.

That "bit of time" has stretched to two weeks for CC4 (the original poster) without any replacement dongles.kritikon wrote:...Blah, blah, blah...

Mostly because they have no clue about what they're saying and because it's à la mode to bash Steinberg. Pathetic.kritikon wrote:I don't know why some give Steinberg such a bad rap...

Steinberg support in europe is better than that from what I've seen (germany & uk) + my experience in france.

No clue? Apparently you haven't read what this thread is about! And you'd be having "a la mode" too if this were you down for two weeks!non_04:05:03:05:7 wrote:Mostly because they have no clue about what they're saying and because it's à la mode to bash Steinberg. I have no beef with Steinberg, and was looking seriously at Halion2, when version 3 came out... with a dongle. I'm making do with VSampler and sfz+ for now, but likely I'll be getting kontakt2 shortly. Another lost sale for Steiny because of that little hardware thingy

I don't bash thier products but I'll never buy them because of the dongle.non_04:05:03:05:7 wrote:Mostly because they have no clue about what they're saying and because it's à la mode to bash Steinberg. Pathetic.kritikon wrote:I don't know why some give Steinberg such a bad rap...
