Oh, I forgot to say... Sculpture takes way more cpu, naturally. Zebra 2 will not replace Sculpture in any way and vice versa although there are some sonical similarities at times...

i should probably start making more sounds for z1.5 while i'm waiting... :)
never stop loving music.

Maybe a few more screenshots and soundexamples...
Please!!!

Hehe, screenshots will come when they're due. That means, when the GUI design is more or less finished, which it still isn't.

Soundexamples... There are tons of demo songs at http://www.u-he.com/zebra - I wouldn't say that Z2 will sound 100% identical, I'd rather say that the sonical characters in the demos are a *subset* of the character variety that Z2 comes up with.

However, 2 sound examples that weren't intended for official use, but were leaked in another thread anyway (Drums are Apple Loops):

Thanks alot. :)

Urs,

There's a feature that's mostly missing in the VST world outside of modular type synths and that's the ability to seriously alter the shape of the oscillator prior to sending it into the filters. It's a notion that goes all the way back to Buchla, but there are currently a couple of really cool hardware synths that use these ideas in the digital domain - e.g. the ArX synth or the droid3. Absynth does have a useful waveshaper, but it's shared between all three oscillators, whereas it should be per oscillator (IMHO). It strikes me that an interesting waveshaper at the oscillator level would be ideal for a synth like zebra...

Well, I can ask, can't I? :)

Z2 has *something serious* working on per-oscillator basis that pretty much exceeds anything waveshapers could do... :hihi:

What do you know? - I've started implementing 8 additional OSC effects today, including such magnificent working titles as "Phase Func" and "Sync Mojo". This makes 17 in total... or 19, if I re-animate the abandoned ones... :hihi:

(I must be drunk. Yes, I am. Otherwise I wouldn't talk about that...)

Holy shit Urs, people just don't know how Z2 will knock the Virtual Studio world on it's ass!

Sounds like THIS from a bee-u-tiful modern gui

It's gonna be a shocker..

We get these presets, right? :hihi:

Have I ever posted that test of the new Vintage filter?

http://www.u-he.com/music/NewZebFilter.mp3

It used to take a *lot* of cpu, but now it's quite moderate. Fast enough to be used on phat basses and lead sounds. For 8-voice chords, you'll need a host that freezes. Or you take one of the other filters.

And as I said, about everything is stereo now. So it's actually funny how the stereo channels interact with the filter drive, especially in the Vintage types, which have kinda "leak" between resonance and filter cutoff:

http://www.u-he.com/music/ZebVintage.mp3 - dry Z2 output, no effects...

(and I can finally reprogram my remaining favourite Virus preset in Z2...)

Cheers,

;) Urs
