btw gingo....what are the chief things you feel are lacking in FL? For me it's recording audio, the lack of punch in a nd stuff really limits me. But then FL is really better at handling sequencing and hosting then recording live audio.

So if you're like me then instead of trading in FL, build on it. I have found AA1.5 is a good solution for audio at a fair price (300 bux). I also feel that I need a better sampler then is currently available in FL so I use Vsampler...so instead of moving on to a new host build on and improve what you have to suit your needs.

Linear composition is pretty much all I do with FL. I know it gets pidgeonholed (and often marketed) as a pattern based host for creating dance music, but it's an undeserved rap. FL is as dense, complex, and capable as you want to make it- and I've worked with most hosts (save Logic).

To be perfectly honest, all I end up doing is patching midi via midi-ox to my synths, and then recording the audio in my host (FLS or Audition). Sometimes when I'm highly motivated, I'll also make a point of recording the midi, but when I'm playing, I'm usually more motivated on playing and recording straight audio, than messing with my software.

The whole situation kind of sucks actually, but I realize nobody is going to set it up for me. Eventually I'll figure out how to use it all more effectively. I've been playing with eXT a bit; again, if I can learn how to use it better, it may be the solution I need. Or maybe I should be looking at $onar or $teinberg (although I've made it very clear how I feel about the whole dongle thing.)

Ok, i'll quit joking. Honestly, i've never tried any of them. I'm also not very clear as to what you are looking for in a host. Personally I do my detailed tasks in FL, then bounce all the audio from there, and do my editing and recording in Acid, simple as that.

Quick rant:
How do you make a proper loop of something you recorded (midi keyboard + vst synth) that doesn't fit exactly 4 or 8 or whatever bars in FL? You can't trim down in the playlist. What I wish is that FL would just show the midi notes, let them be unconfined, and I can move them around, loop them, exactly as I want. Instead I'm restricted to the space of whatever bars I have in my main sequencer. Meaning that if I wrote 7 bars and want to loop 7 bars I can't.

wrong.

you can loop as many bars as you want, just use the piano-roll.

you can put your pattern wherever you want on the playlist timing line. zoom and snap settings are your friends.

no offense, ninjazz, but i think it shows very well how FLS is often seen as a toy, a non-professional host, just because its powerful features are hardly known.

OK Wopelka I figured out what the problem was for me. I wanted to loop 3 1/2 bars and the playlist confines itself to whole bars. So then I figured out to take the snap off the playlist and thus be able to overlap sections so I can loop 3 1/2 bars. Then I read what you said about zooming in and well...I never done that before! You know it works! I got exactly what I wanted.
