On a mac the two options to show or hide your vsts can be really annoying because;
If I have it to hide the vst whenever the mouse isn't over it they can be really hard to pick up and move around but most annoying is the fact that I have to mouve the cursor off the vst so it dissapears just to start the song playing again with the space bar.
If I choose to uncheck the vst option so the plug stays on the screen I have to click on the main background somewhere to start the song again.
I hope you understand.sorry if its a bit vague.

Basically I want hit play/stop and have it work regardless of whether theres a vst showing or not.
Clicking back on the main window is quite irritating and have let it go for this long but its getting right on my pip! :)

VST?
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

It can't. If Tracktion steals key focus from VSTs then you'd never be able to use the keyboard in conjunction with a VST plugin. Your Mac needs some way of knowing to which window keyboard events should be sent. Giving focus to a window by clicking on it is that way.

Leave the "auto hide vst" option disabled, use the "lock" button to keep the vst on screen even when Tracktion has keyboard focus, and get used to clicking inside and outside of windows. It's standard user-interface protocol, and there really isn't any way round it, unfortunately.

I know I have to live with it and of sort of got used to it but i'm sure it was different in Logic and DP.
It's been ages since I used either and would'nt dream of going back.
I'll try the lock method for a while and just shut my cake hole.:)

another reason to have transport midi ;)

another reason to have transport midi Wink

Yep that would be nice but I use an ibook and need portability.
It's annoying and just wondered if there was a way it could be written in to the program.
Thanks for replies.

what do you use as a control synth? Some can do MMC, so you can start stop playback from a MIDI keyboard.

I have a little USB powered 2-oct m-audio thing that can do MMC, as well as a a few other gimmicks.

Also, if there is anything like Bome's MIDI translator software for the Mac, you might be able to map certain MIDI keys to MMC commands.

I use an Ozone so maybe I could map the top key..mmmmm.

sounds interesting, any help would be good because although i'm called mapper i'm total shit with midi.
Is it something to do with the controlers section of the settings page?

the info you need is here

http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=82327

but the software in the links is for windoze so you will have to hunt down some mac software that dose the same

unless you can map transport controlls from your controller?

Nothing to do with the settings page.

Basically, if you portable midi keyboard can do MMC, then it is a two stage process:

1) read the manual for the midi keyboard to find out how to have it transmit MMC play /stop commands when certain buttons are pressed. It was a bit fiddly with my m-audio o2, but nothing to confusing.

Once you have your MIDI device set up, just open Tracktion, and:

2) open an edit so that you are in the main arrange area of Tracktion. Go to the 'timecode' button, and select the 'respond to MIDI Machine Control from Device' option. A popup will show you active MIDI Ins. Choose the MIDI In your ozone is connected to.

At this point, the buttons on your keyboard will control Tracktion's transport. Depending what, if any, MMC commands the ozone supports, you should at least be able to get the basic transport working. I had little success with fast forward/rewind though.

I'm not sure, but I think the ozone has reasonably good MMC support.

Actually, I think I'm getting confused with the ozonic.

The ozone is the base version with the trimmed back MIDI features, but with added audio inputs, right? If so, it doesn't have buttons that can be mapped like the o2 does, although you may still be able to map midi keys to MMC.

That stuff gives me brain ache..i'm just a humble songwriter.
I have a look through the manual later.
If you could just move the vsts around from any point on them not just the thin strip at the top that would make my life a lot easier.
It has a hair trigger and sometimes its very difficult to just pick a synth up and shove it out the way.

Maybe the solution would be a key combo that would ALWAYS switch focus to Tracktion and away from VST windows... I really didn't bother reading the post that's why I'm not sure if it's a solution :P
