Hi Dave,

Just wondering if DS404 supports sustain messages?
I loaded up a piano sample and couldn't get it to play like a real piano (eg with the sustain pedal).

Sorry, but no Muon instrument responds to sustain pedal messages. I'm sort of of the opinion still that the polyphony required to make it worthwhile still isn't there on most users CPUs. Comments, anyone?

hmmm. don't think I agree dave.

sustain pedal doesn't require unlimited polyphony, just smart enough voice stealing. I use use it sometimes w VSTIs, especially piano imitators. people don't have to use it if it makes trouble for them, but they can't use if it's not there.

Hmmmm. Well I can't really agree there.

Maybe for synth sounds it doesn't bother me too much although I know a lot of people use the pedal even on synth sounds....but a sampled piano without sustain?? That seems bizarre.

I just don't see any point in marketing a piano sample set for a device that can't accept sustain messages for example. I hope you're not on the verge of trying to market the ultimate steinway in 404 format because I can't imagine many people buying it.

However, when it comes to many other sounds I'm not as fussed to be able to send sustain messages so it depends really.

I don't care about sustain pedal messages in a synth, but in any sampler it's an absolute must have. Again you just can't play a piano properly without the sustain, even rhodes and wurlies greatly benefit with the occasional hit of the sustain pedal. If you guys ever expand upon DS404 and make a commercial version you'll have to include sustain pedal support (hell, do it anyway :) ). As for the CPU usage, every DAW should be able to play back a fairly large (100MB+) piano part with the sustain pedal down a decent amount of the time without grinding their system to a hault, just remember to lift it up when you can to save on some CPU, and bounce down. My system is no speed demon anymore, but it can certainly handle it without a problem.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

Dito! Dear Muon people, if you have a heart, please fix that!

Yay ! Ds404 with sustain = very good )

I'll make sure it goes in the bug fix update coming soon. It's now on the list of known issues.

Regards + Happy New Year!

great news dave (:-)

CM is hard to get hld of around here. will that be the only way this update is distributed?

You will be able to download an update patcher from our website, just the same as for any other Muon/CM plugin. SR202 v1.01D for example is available as an update patcher at www.muon-software.com/html/support.html

I've just done some preliminary code and you'll be pleased to hear that DS404 now has sustain pedal support. A little more testing and a Mac version and it'll be released shortly. I have also seriously whittled down that "known issues" list!!

Cheers
Dave

This is very good news Dave, I know you probably didn't have to add sustain pedal support but I'm extremely glad you did. If you keep spoiling us like this we'll probably go back to asking for portamento in the CM101 ( :P joke, just a joke  ) :D .
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.
