Stringer is a SynthEdit VSTi, even if this isn't Stringer, it could be related to SE plugs. It doesn't look to be a virus though:
2.) After I use Stringer and close it another FOLDER appears on my
desktop called 6202 with a file in it called "MIDIControllers.dat" , approx
512 bytes. Any way to send this folder to somewhere else besides the
desktop? If I delete it, it just comes back next time I use Stringer.

better late than never.
Some time ago, I found a similar folder in the same folder as my host (not T in this case), but its name was 6203. It contains a single file MIDIControllers.dat (last modified in February this year). I recall trying out Stringer and it could well have been at that time.
As I did not know what had created the folder I renamed it to 6203_odd to see if anything stopped working. Nothing did (I am not using Stringer). I reckon I can delete the folder now.
So, have a look in your (Tracktion) installation folder and sub-folders for the file "MIDIControllers.dat"

hmmmnnn ... just tried stringer ... the file it creates is MIDIcontrollers.txt not MIDIcontrollers.dat ... i assume that any synthedit VST that uses dave haupts MIDI learn modules will create a similar file ...

mine is definitely .dat (created in February 2005, but I would have DLed Stringer sometime earlier),
could the filetype have been changed in the recent SE updates?
Anyway, it does not seem to be harmful

I'm still thinking it probably has something to do with the pixel virus, or one of it's variants. Apparently it's rather harmless, and doesn't necessarily do anything...but spread and show "funny" messages.
