I just bought Tracktion 2 from Sweetwater for $149.

This piece of hardware comes with some version of Tracktion for the same price?

If it's version 2 boxed, I want my Link.USB or my money back, since I haven't even installed version 2 yet (still on Win98SE)

I'll look into what version it is and any other info I can get.

I'll bet it's an upgrade-limited version. The ad sure is short on details.

its most probley only got the mackie & standerd plugins with it,

otherwise link usb would have to give a bit of each sale to the 3rd party plugin developers

looks like a bargin ither way though :)

Why is that Tapco thing so cheap :-o . It almost sounds too good to be true.

Of course, Tapco is by Mackie. And it's a more budget line of products. I've used some of their monitors in the studio, and they are pretty good.

Right now, the piece is vaporware - Go to the Tapco site and they don't even list it as a product yet - just their intro of it at Musikmesse.

But it does say that the pre-amps are Mackie designed, for whatever that is worth.

There's another i/o device in Sweetwater's catalog that I'm interested in, but again, it's not yet released: Alesis I|O 2. $199 with similar specs as the Link.USB, but with MIDI I/O as well.

Then again, M-Audio just intro-ed the Fast Track Pro, again, similar specs for $199

So, my USB based interface choices for $200 are becoming many.

The preamps on the little Tapco mixers are a pre-VLZ design apparently so not as good as current Mackie stuff but still pretty good (above average).

How are USB-interfaces in general? What is the latency like?
If you have requests for Korg VST features or changes, they are listening at https://support.korguser.net/hc/en-us/requests/new

a dual preamp usb interface is a damn handy thing to have around.

i use mine for quick overdubs to keep from having to hook up the onyx 1640 for just one or two extra overdubs.

no idea on latency. i use zero latency and mic cabs, run keys direct or run vocals, acoustic and other mics directly to hard drive and then apply effects.

get a usb interface, theres nothing to fear. they're great time saving devices in some instances.

plus, if you want to do some stereo field recording, you're good to go without having to bring along a bunch of racks and roller cases. i love mine!

...but i love the sound of my onyx 1640. both have serious real world uses. both are invaluable.

OK, it is T2 but it is not the boxed version so none of the extra plugs. It simply has the MDA and bundled Tracktion plugs and that's it.

Beno,

That's what I suspected. I'm starting to swim in confusion with the options that are out there for $199.

Here's another piece (no pre-amps however)

Alesis X25 controller keyboard with 2 channels of balanced audio i/o. Again, $199 - but with lots of control knobs for T2 manipulation!!!
