Hi
I'm using the voxengo curve eq and i really like it's because it is so easy to use. and sounds great.

But it has a latency problem 3072 samples.

To cut a boring story short Cubase sx compensates for this on the audio channels by making a delay and doesn't bother compensating on the vsti channels. Which causes other problems in Cubase like CPU overload etc etc....All a bit nuts.

Is there an eq like this or similar?
Whats the best EQ without delay?

Kjaerhus GEQ7. Don't believe it adds latency. And it sounds great!

what i like about the curve eq is the "click on a graph move the pointer around business" if you've ever used it you'll see what i mean.

I've seen that voxengo do another eq I'll have to download the demo to see if it has a latency.

I totally love the curve eq though for "speed eq-ing" approach.

Agreed, I Love that EQ. The gui is nice too, very easy to use. Pisses on the Sonalksis gui (man, I can hardly work that thing!).

My got to EQ is still RenEQ, but that is really just force of habit. Im sure Kjaerhus is just as good, and it sure looks better.

KBKB, check out Voxengo GlissEQ - should be fine, without latency. You basically need to set filter types and then just drag the nodes and use mousewheel to change steepness.

Also have a look at posihfopit. It has a nice feature called: auto-calculation, where you can draw a similar curve on the screen (with the right mouse button) and the EQ is set nearly to that drawn curve. Have a look here:

The current version is free, but there will be commercial versions soon, if you prefer it more seriously.

Sonalksis SV-517 EQ has zero latency, sounds great imho and you can directly drag the curve in the gui.

Errrrrrr....is it just me or do other people use SX with no latency deficiencies on the VSTi channels? It compensates on all channels apart from live input (obviously). Unless you're using SX1 (dunno if that had full PDC, as I never used it) but SX2 and onwards has full PDC.

Check your settings rather than waste money on a new Eq if you like the one you've got already. I suspect you've maybe changed a setting somewhere that's knocked off PDC - there should be no playback or recording latency on a VSTi channel. I've used huge latency-inducing plugins such as SIR on VSTi channels for both playback and recording, and the PDC works perfectly - I've checked it down to individual samples on the waveforms, and in most cases there is absolutely no latency.

Someone mentioned Firium above. I have Firium. This will only give you the same problem, since it has latency delay of a ? # of samples. Don't know why you are not having compensation with Cubase.
I'd check out the problem before paying money for another equalizer. My favorite equalizer is one from PSP--Master Q--parametric. It causes negligible delay (I don't know about zero--I imagine most things give the tiniest amount of delay because of processing?)

Can't drag the curve with the Master Q. You have to use knobs and such.

I feel like a "EQ with a Graph or EQ with a Knob" debate is coming on.

I never really liked eqing until i could eq with a graph.

The reason that both firium and curve eq have a lot of samples of delay is due to the fact that they are linear phase eqs which by design will always have some latency. I personally like HarmoniEq for sweetening overall mixes, sonalksis for all my mixing stuff, and the urs A and N series mainly on drums and bass. However if you would like a design more like curve eq I think the FFT filter in samp is latency-free and a search on free fft's should provide something equivalent.

That said
A) Cubase SX 2 and 3 have full PDC
B) Linear phase plugins are not supposed to be cpu light
C) What sort of music do you make (just humour me) ?
