Which midi editor to layer several tracks and save as SMF?

I own Live 5, Project 5 V2 and Acid "Pro" 5, but I just can't create midi files that consist of more than one track (and channel) and save them as SMF.

Acid should do this, but it's just unbelievably buggy and resets every midi track's name to "new track" and every channel number (but the first) to 1 when saving. So, forget it.

Live can't save several midi tracks (clips) to one SMF -- or can it?

And Project 5 V2 can't save midi patterns as standard midi files. (If it could layer several midi tracks, I don't know -- anybody?)

So, what I need is an application, be it standalone or plugin that can do what I need midi-wise and trigger vstis (because I need to hear what I wrote before I save it ;-)); any General Midi instrument would do. Nothing more.

Or somebody to tell me how I can achieve what I want with Project 5 V2 or Live 5.

Thanks a lot,
Zerobae
