trying to render in 16 bit -- getting only 24

i'm using the asio4all drivers while a friend is borrowing my m-audio interface for a while. whenever i render a soft synth track (rather than freeze it, since i don't like tracktion's freeze), the resultant waveform is always 24 bit. i have the soundcard correctly setup up to do 16 bit in the "settings" menu and everything and have checked out asio4all's control panel, but still, the waves always come out 24 bit. i can of course just change the bit depth to 16, but because this is the generic sound card (which doesn't like 24 bit), i get these little pops every now and then which i have to go in and delete with a click/pop remover. i'm still new to tracktion, so i'm wondering if there's a setting i'm missing with this 24 bit thing.

Nope, the current version of T2 renders tracks at 16 bit.

just in case anyone is interested...
after beno's incredibly helpful reply, i decided to investigate further. i downloaded a couple other generic asio drivers: asiox and asio2ksbeta. when i render tracks with these, they come out 16 bit like they're supposed to, so for some reason, and maybe only on my computer, using asio4all drivers tends to render to 24 bit regardless of whether or not you want it to. don't know why. but now i know.
