Z-Plane are outstanding but, for me the real standouts and best by far are the Adern modules for the Scope platform.

the dynamics , volume and presence get killed in that plugin.
just open the "clean" preset and hear how its not clean at all. compare by bypassing the plugin.
the sound of the filters is actually good....but the plugin somewhere in the audio chain does something starnge to the incoming audio....
u cant get the same sound comin in and out ofthe plugin....it just lowers the quality of the audio coming in. it's so evident.
ppl that said this is a good filter plugin need their ears checked.no offence....but its so obvious.
what i really liked though was the MIDI tiggering (for lfos and enevlope)on keypress. which make its seemlessly integrate with any softwsynth for example.

I was put to pieces by making "my review" of that crap shortly after release. Now I am justified (and satisfied). We are brothers in mind.

I mean, nobody with a little bit of ear-to-brain connection could ever ignore all those problems with Volcano. It is a (bad) distorter or lofier in my opinion. Nothing else.

I had an EMU Carnival module and was not taken by the 50+ Z-Plane filters.

I had a Sherman Filterbank MK1 and thought that was a very nice sounding filter.

I really liked the filters on the AKAI 3000XL sampler.

Software wise I have yet to fall in love with a filter - there is a distinct lack of resolution at the bottom end of most software filters - must be the IC chips used in most soundcards?

All these experiences are based on many hours of use - not a 10 minute demo.

Ah - the Sherman....that's really an instrument in itself. But it's almost more of a distortion device than a filter....I had to sell the original one a few years ago, but I'll get a 2 one day.

access virus, sherman and imposcar,(wet juicy and dangerous) like a low-pass fart after 10 pints of Guiness and a bag of peanuts.

Volcano is like a juvenile's face. It erupts pus and makes an incoherent rambling noise.

Thanks to whoever told about the KarmaFX filter in this thread. It´s the only free filter I´ve come across that does what I need in a filter, and it´s really nice on the CPU as well, unlike for example the Antares filter.

One last time, reduce the input gain.. but then again, I think you two are just :troll:

Maybe associated with a certain other filter perhaps? :hihi:

I fear reducing the input volume as much as required to not to hear the cheap result would finally lead to absolute silent output. :hihi:

And yes, all who can hear that entire distortion of that filter are baaad. You are an angel for sure... :nutter:

lol noob.
yeah I'm asscoiated with all the free syntedit filters which do not present this problem.
and dude lowering the input volume solves nothing.
can't u see the input gain is set to 0 !! so it should not be affecting sound! if there's no cutting or boosting of frequencies u can't justfy such a drastic drop in volumes, sound dynamics and harmoinc content. u should be able to have the same sound coming in and out of a filter.(by just adjusting cut off and resonance).
but in this plugin u lose quality....the sound gets raped . not more to add.

ps: if u do own this plugin then contact the devlopers and get them to fix it for you. don't attack us for just pointing out what this plugin does to the audio chain.
i think they nailed the sound of the filters but screwed up somwehre else....making this plugin a joke...or at least not suitable for its purpose.

FWIW, I think it's totally ridicilous to "demand" that a filter can be tweaked to not affect the signal at all.

What if it's a formant filter for instance? :)

No, seriously. It's an effect, if people like how it sounds when it's fully open, then that's fine. Just because some people DON'T like how it sounds when being fully open that doesn't make it a bad filter.

If they wanted to make a filter that can be transparent, they most likely failed. But if they just wanted to make something with character, well, then it's hard to complain about it affecting the sound.

have u tried it at all?
sound goes down about 20%in volume, loses depth ,the dynamics are killed, quality reduced. is it a bitcrusher? sorrry didn't know.
with low pass /high pass filter by just adjusting cut off /res u should be able to get pretty much identical input and output signals.
i can get this even with synthedit filters and every other filter plugin i tried.
volcano is flawed ....try it for yoursefl then u'll see.

I actually really rate volcano. I think it has a nice 'liquid' sound, and the things you mention i have never noticed. Also im with stefan when he points out that that is the sound of the filter. If you dont like it, use a different filter, but its a bit harsh to call it 'broken'. Also im curious why would you want to setup a filter to pass out the exact same thing you give it? Doesnt that defeat the purpose of putting a filter in the signal chain? ;)

Nope, I haven't tried it. But as long as no-one is claiming that it's a transparent effect it's just a matter of taste. And if it's just a matter of taste I don't see the issue.

I have to agree with starcraft I dont like Volcano.

If I want to do a filter sweep on some drums I don't want to have to bounce down a seperate section just to run a filter on!

I add a lot of distortion and compression to my sounds, drums etc and when I add Volcano to the equation it strips my them of all their goodness.

I don't see why they didn't just add a seperate distortion section.

David Haupt released a 64 bit filter yesterday. Exiting :)

Maybe it will show up in synths later this year.
It is very promising. Amazing little CPU-load too.
