that was such a shameless plug my friend!

And a darn good one too

I feel I've been waiting forever for amplitube 2......but I am anxious to see what it'll do.

Post

Yes,

I'm willing to purchase Waves GTR now or wait for Amplitube 2. All I want out of a modeler is a good heavy distortion sound that does not sound buzzy or fizzy. I don't even need tons of amp sims in one package, just one that kicks! Every modeler I've tried so far has pretty good to excellent useable clean sounds but none of them have been able to produce convincing distortion/overdrive. This includes Amplitube, Guitar Rig, PodXT, Vox Tonelab, J-Station, etc.

Some guy put up an A/B demo of a piece played through Amplitube 1 and GTR and to my mind the guitar sound was way better in Amplitube but GTR was less noisy. If they've managed to fix that in AT2 it'll be unbeatable.

I will give you my opinion. You all know I am biased toward IK. But, I am objective. AmpliTube 1 is really great and was so good at being the first full guitar rig in software. It certainly was a popular product for IK and has won a lot of awards etc etc. I always liked it but I am a hardware guy too so I didn't ever feel the way I do about AmpliTube 2 for any other effect plug-in before. Being a gear-head and one who likes to produce music with classic rock flavors AmpliTube 2 is just right on the money! From the sound to the look to the way it is set up... I love it. It is HOT! For me it smokes everything else on the market for that. But, that's for me personally. I know many others will feel the same but each person is different so there will be people that have their favorites and also there are people who will have more than one (people have more than one amp in their collection and more than one stomp box... you could have all of the guitar effects software that is out and it be less than a 1964 Vox AC30 with Top Boost!).

AmpliTube 2 is coming very soon! More information about it is being released any day now (keep your eye out on www.amplitube.com and other IK sites). It is a fine product and one I think everyone should have even if you do have GTR or Guitar Rig or whatever else (UAD Nigel or other things). It stands alone for being a great inspiring and useful tool for its own reasons regardless of what you may like about other products too. That's how I feel about it. Plus, it is an interesting platform for more things to develop (like Ampeg for example that is powered by AmpliTube 2).

We might even be able to put AT2 up on pre-order in the next month or so. I think people are going to freak out over it. The way it models saturation is nothing short of brilliant in my opinion. To me that is one of the main things that was missing in emulations- the break up of the distorted speaker. But, also the configurable pedal and the choices you have! Some great stomps. An accurately modeled Tube Screamer? A modeled Fuzz Face? Dynacomp? Phase 90 and 100? (the 100??????? :D :D :D :D Tony Banks, Rutherford and Hackett :D ) or the CE-1 chorus???? (that's the ONE baby- best chorus ever made)... THIS IS ONE AMAZING PLUG-IN!!!!!!! Just get it. ;)

A real phase 100, that's too good to be true

A real ce-1? Everyone "says" they have one.......I'll be the judge of that! Oh, btw, I have a real one :D
Just get it.
demo must be used first!

Squids, thanks for the information. I'm looking forward to trying this out. However, if version 2 is just an expansion from version 1, more toys and same quality, I would not be impressed. I felt that version 1 had some good clean sounds but anything with heavy overdrive was horrible, muddy bass, and the reverbs and delays were just unbearable.

My GTR demo is up on Friday.
I hope Amplitube2 is coming soon.
I love Amplitube and I hope version 2 will blow GTR away.
GTR has one very strong point and that is the slightly driven amp, I hope Amplitube2 will have a comparable sound.

Andrew,

How are the higher gain settings with GTR? Effects?

I have a real one of each of those. But, sure, you can judge for yourself... in due time. ;) I might make a few A/B demos for you though at some point here. You have to admit that it is worth the price just for those pedals alone!

I disagree about AT1. But, anyway, as usual with IK this is not just a little update. It is a massive MASSIVE difference and is really a whole new plug-in with new models and new modeling techniques, achitecture... everything.

Andrew,
It was your demo I was alluding to above. You got a much better "sound" out of Amplitube. And great playing and style variety. But do you agree with me that there was less noise in GTR? No doubt for me though, AT2 is very very high on my list

Well, I installed my new iLok yesterday, installed the Waves GTR demo and played with it for a while. The stomps are nice, the cleans are nice, the mild overdrive is nice but for anything heavy, forget about it. I have six more days to play but so far I am very unimpressed with the product, for my needs anyway. I'm hoping that Amplitube 2 will be all it is hyped up to be, IK will get my money then, as of now, Waves will definitely not.

There are some products I think Waves are amazing at. The restoration stuff is incredible, various tools for mastering and some really advanced innovative stuff. But, AmpliTube 2 is just going to be hard to beat by all of the competition. I have never said that about AmpliTube 1. I like it a lot but I LOVE AmpliTube 2. LOVE as in HITS THE NAIL ON THE HEAD PSYCHED!!!! Maybe I am over-hyping it but I am genuinely excited. It is one of the most exciting plug-ins to come out IMO. I am not just saying that because it had modeled some of my very own personal stomp collection (although that is so cool it is beyond words) but I collect vintage gear to have that authentic character of any rock band in my studio and it just isn't realistic for everyone to have their own personal "Aspen Pittman" collection of amps and pedals. ;) Just ONE pedal like a Boss CE-1 or Fuzzface practically costs the same as this plug-in! Hats off to the engineers that made AmpliTube 2. It is fantastic in so many ways. The layout even being one of the biggest ones! So logical, so guitar player friendly, so sharp looking... I know you guys are suffering because you haven't had it in your hands. It won't be long before it is out now. You will see what I mean. It will be a favorite amongst many musicians. If anyone loved AmpliTube 1 or even if you DIDN'T then there's a good chance you are going to go nuts over AT2 like me. In my opinion it is a must-have STAPLE piece for any virtual studio where you do modern music.

Ohhh.... and I know a couple REALLY REALLY REALLY cool surprises too. I WISH I could say. But, I can't. Not my place to. But, when you hear it you will be so thrilled as I am. As usual, expect a little more. ;)
