'Zero Length Edit' and wanky render/export frustrations...

Brief run-down:
I throw in a GTG X7 synth thru an instance of iZotope's "Trash" and automate the overdrive of the 2nd distortion (non-multi band) and it sounds sweet. I figure that since I can't find a way to automate the 'bypass' of just the 2nd distortion, I'd render the output to another audio track and work from there.
Rendering yields weirdness. It sounds 200% different from it does upon playback - automation 'sticks' in spots and it somehow renders for nearly four measures longer than the MIDI data being fed into the GTG synth (and four measures beyond the loop stop bar, no less).
I decide maybe it's wanky and export the same region - same wankyness occurs. Then I decide to route the audio in a loop from the 1st and 2nd outputs of my LX6 back into the 1st and 2nd inputs and simply record it as it plays. I get nothing but 'Zero Edit Length' errors and a kick into 'Play' instead of 'Record' when pressing 'Record'.
I can see the input being registered in the Aadvark Mixer, hell, I can see it in the Record Meter in Tracktion 2 yet this goes down...
I've noted this problem before (either on the forums or to Beno and the bug testing crew) and this... yeah.
Suffice to say, if anyone has any ideas - please let me know. Otherwise I'm sick of work-arounds and may have to considering 'playing for the other team'... what team? Undetermined.

Is it only with this plug-in? Or does it happen with others? And yeah as stash asked, how does it work if you just turn automation off?

now this is the strainge one for me_oswald wrote:Then I decide to route the audio in a loop from the 1st and 2nd outputs of my LX6 back into the 1st and 2nd inputs and simply record it as it plays. just to check???
you have what you can here being sent back into T2 as a record input?
dose this happen with all recordings from this input or only in this one edit?
it sounds like you ither have somthing enabled as a mcu input in the settings page (if this happens all the time)
or (most probally) you have some extra automation in the edit that is stoping you from being able to record the input as it plays live
or maby you just simply havent armed that input so there for its not recording
as for the render problems, ozone trash needs a sertan amout of pdc to run, this may be causing the problem, the next update should fix this & most (if not all) other pdc render problems

I'm sure it would work then, but that would defeat the purpose of what I'm trying to do.stash98 wrote:can you render to audio befoe you do any automation?
I even had this problem when sending to outboard gear and back and I believe I emailed either Dan or you about it (I can't dig up the email as I threw all my sent email backups to my backup drive and don't have the space to put it back on the normal drive).Beno wrote:Is it only with this plug-in?
Yes.djsubject wrote: you have what you can here being sent back into T2 as a record input?
This is the only thing in the edit and it has also happened before on other, larger edits in the past.djsubject wrote: dose this happen with all recordings from this input or only in this one edit?
The inputs work fine. Signal registers and last night I recorded vocals with teh exact same inputs without a problem.djsubject wrote: it sounds like you ither have somthing enabled as a mcu input in the settings page (if this happens all the time)
I seriously hope that's not the issue. This is 2005, not 1994 - if you get my drift.djsubject wrote: or (most probally) you have some extra automation in the edit that is stoping you from being able to record the input as it plays live
It was armed as if it was living on the West Bank (joke!)djsubject wrote: or maby you just simply havent armed that input so there for its not recording![]()
This seriously confuses me. Like I said way above, it's happened even with outboard gear - which totally messes me up. The signal shows on the Aardvark inputs, it registers on Tracktion's record inputs and I can even hear it on playback with E-to-E going.
However, if I push 'Record' it kicks into 'Play'. The only time I've ever had this work if if I bash the 'R' button a dozen times and somehow fool the program into actually recording.
WTF.

I even tried to see if I could kick it into record by also record arming a midi track as well as the audio input - no go. Kicked it back to 'play' as usual.djsubject wrote:ok 1 last question then i'm out of idears

Suggestion for "wanky" renders / exports: have you tried exporting with "render at 1x play speed" checked?
And, when recording looped back audio have you tried turning off E-to-E for that input? (I'm thinking there may be some weirdness caused by a feedback loop..?)

I've tried 1x, yes. Same result.IIRs wrote:Suggestion for "wanky" renders / exports: have you tried exporting with "render at 1x play speed" checked?

I've tried it with E-E on the input on and off, same result as well.
Seriously, this makes no sense. I really don't want to have to resort to recording the output of Tracktion into Cool Edit 2000 (which I can do and have done before) and then bring it back into Tracktion after the fact. I'd like my workflow as clean as possible.
Plzkthx.

ok, i think i may have found it (allthough it is non consistent)
the edit giving you problems, dose it have a vst in the master out bus? if yes could you remove it or them & let us know if that fixed it?
