Don't think that'll translate over here. But that thought crossed my mind too.

And talking of "whoosh - straight over your head", here's a photo of Julian and myself calibrating our new meters to their peak value. Once this level has been set (the loudest thing there is) then it's relatively simple to divide down for everything else.

Little old grannies who sit around sipping tea and eating cucumber sandwiches at a garden party? :P

Grannies....

Yer damn right. My granny has absolutely nothing to do with my scrotum!
Someone shot the food. Remember: don't shoot food!

Well, that's pretty much it. Except for the first-person shooter bit....

I didn't realize you were such a gamegeek, Lee. ;)

Sorry Had to delete Lees post. I know he was just answering the question but I figured there might be kids around here and it honestly was a big problem for a time in the US. So let's get back on topic eh? I'll start, that PPMulator looks great!

I could use that, looks very good too. You never know when your stuff's going to end up on telly: case in point- a song my band recorded has been used by Channel 4 and the programme was broadcast on cable/satellite TV as well, we're currently chasing C4 via PRS for the appropriate money...
Coffee please, black, no sugar.

You've got the right source but I wonder if you are really close enough to get the best recording. Optimum level would be as close as posible without melting the mic or wiring. Good luck.

Rock, the 40 kiloton blast was about 60 million degrees centigrade, produced a pressure wave of 100 atmospheres, moved at 15 miles per second and - we were thrilled to say - exactly hit PPM6 (0dBu) on our plug-in meter.

And although it can't be seen in the photo, we had a kick-drum microphone on a very long lead to capture the initial bang. I used an AKG D112 with a 6 mile-long XLR lead. Though far away, this is still nearer than I like to be when recording drummers.
