Hi - Is it possible to D.I. a guitar amp into Mackie XD-2 ? or is this out of the question - Thanks

Yeah it's just a line level signal. However unless the DI output on the amp has some sort of speaker/cab simulation incorporated (some do, some don't) the resulting signal may not sound quite as good as you expect it to.

Thanks - I'll be using a Behringer D. I. box which has a 4/12 cab simulator, i'll give it a try see how it sounds

i'd recommend getting voxengo boogex plugin and just recording your signal dry and then setting the boogex to get a similar amp sound. or try another free amp sim. you'd be amazed at what they can do with amp sims lately. or get a line6 pod or another version of a hardware amp sim. you'll get better sound.
the prefered method is to mic a guitar amp/cab. if you don't have the mics to do so, then an amp sim is the better choice. in my opinion. others may differ in their opinion. there is no right way to do anything if it works for you, but you can definitely make a significant impact on your tone by trying these avenues. recording directly out of a preamp out on a guitar amp, even if it has a "recording" output is risky and most always results in a weak and unuseable tone. but then again, maybe you LIKE that bee gees tone. ...i dunno...
