PC vs MAC

I bought a mac mini this afternoon. It's the new $599 model(1.42/512/80). I also bought the new mighty mouse. I installed Tracktion 2, Sonik Synth, Sampletank, and Mtron and played around a bit. So far, I'm happy with the performance. I'm running it with a MOTU 828MKII and haven't had any stability or performance problems. I recorded 6 simultaneous tracks of electronic drums to the internal drive without a problem. I also had a song with 2 instances of Soniksynth, (2) Sampletanks, (1) Mtron, and a couple audio tracks along with 7 effects plugins and the CPU meter was just under 50%.

Congratulations. It looks like you just bought yourself a machine with 1/4 the power of an equivalently priced PC... good job!

:hihi:

Thank you. 1/4 the raw CPU power, and 1/60th the hassle of keeping a PC running smooth without spyware, viruses, system crashes, driver issues, bios issues, etc...

Plus, I'd rather work under OS-X than Windows.

My Centrino laptop is quite hassle free and I don't suffer from problems with spyware and viruses. Then again I don't do the stupid shit that some people, who do incur these problems, seem to do. I have no driver problems, this machine has crashed once in 10 months and I can't think of the last time I've needed to deal with BIOS issues. Certainly never on this machine. These are the same old tired myths that are constantly perpetrated by Apple zealots.

However, if you prefer OSX to XP that's another thing. That's a valid reason, IMO, for choosing a Mac. The other reasons are just plain bullshit.

Power will doubtless become an issue at some stage.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

I do prefer OSX to Windows. I own PCs that are much faster than my Mac mini(and my previous 400MHz Powermac) but I still prefer using Macs w/OSX for music apps. I use PCs for applications that aren't available for Macs.

In the end, it doesn't matter what you use as long as it works for you. It would suck if we didn't have choices.
