Hmm... to be honest, I don't think either Jessica or Jessica look particularly good. Look up Aloma Wright if you want some SERIOUS beauty.

It was just me and this other guy, but Photoshop made us a band of six. Kraftwerk meets N*Sync meets 1940's Berlin, singing happy pop songs with somewhat disturbing lyrics. I think I thought I was making a point about the homogeneous pop landscape at the time, but I was a teenager, so who knows what the hell I was thinking. It was funny in a kinda offensive way, but I'm glad I never put enough effort into it to finish.
So yes, I have actually been in a boy band, if satire counts.
what a great idea - very postmodern. That could really catch on now 8)

f**k no I wouldn't be in a boy band. I wouldn't do music just for perks. At least I wouldn't do it and then consider myself a meaningful artist. I would look at it as nothing more than a job, like being in construction or something. If people praised me for, I'd give them funny looks.

I don't think any of them are talented artists (imho). They're mostly generic stage school performers though I daresay some like to kid themselves otherwise.

Well, I'd never want to pave, cuz that just seems awful, but if it were like building houses or something, and the pay was the same, I'd rather build houses and be a hobbyist music guy then be in a boy band full time.

Could we do spontaneous choreography while paving?

nothing to show at the end.
Nothing besides several million dollars and enough connections to produce a serious music project that didnt suck through the back channels under a different name....

Seriously, of course there is a lot of sacrifice for these band members, and they are not taken seriously usually after such a career, but they are rich and able to retire at age 20-25 typically, and pursue a world of vast opportunities many will never see.

Seems that idealism is one thing, but the reality they make available to themselves is another.

Also, who says all the music made by such bands sucks? We may all not like it, but apparently a lot of young kids do, enough to stuff dozens of artists' pockets full of cash.

Of course music need not be attached to money, but it also need not be attached to an underground or exclusive group that is often equally as meaningless. Too many have made the mistake of considering themselves 'real' artists because they are not getting rich, but doing it for some proprietary set of idealistic reasons- If you ask me the true distinction of an artist lies elsewhere. If one even needs to consider themselves as an artist at all, they may not be spending enough time living the art itself. In my opinion, it is always best to consider the art itself, not the artist or the means by which the artist exists. If the art is good its good, if it sucks it sucks.

And to answer the original question, sure I would be in one of these bands. I would likely get rich, and have 70 years left to repair my reputation. :hihi:

Because they want to sound better than these awful bands?

and I don't think he meant "do something as loathsome as appeal to the gay market" so much as "be cynically manipulated and exploited and cynically manipulate and exploit" the gay market.
well now
that's a bit different then

still
who cares if some people sell that stuff and some people are willing to buy it

takes all kinds

I'm sure those cynically manipulated boys will eventually get over the trauma of having to dance around in expensive clothing.
