i think this plugin is f**king excellent... i love it.

And i'm not going to bother intellectualizing it any furthur with bullshit about it muddying up the sound, about setting input gain, about how clean (or not clean) the clean preset is, about setting Q this and frequency that.

It sounds good =)

I liked the way it f****d up my tracks, but I did have an issue with some poofs in Live 5 when tweaking the filters using the handle in the slope display--so I think I'll query the developer's forum before I plunk down the $99 bucks for it.

YMMV.
Hey I've had that too!!! In Live 4/5 - CPU spikes, making the computer temporarily freeze. Is that the poofs you're talking about? I contacted the developers and they've tried to update volcano but the 1.11 prerelease version they sent me still had the bug. Please send them an email so they know its not only me having CPU spikes.

Volcano is the best filter plugin out there IMO. It sounds better than anything else I've tried. And worse - it's addictive. I want to test it on everything. I love the sound quality, the distortion, filter panning, and the fast lfo's!

You guys talking about the 'clean' preset distorting the signal - to my experience it is only the Fabfilter (EDIT: I mean the Fabfilter One)characteristic that does this. That is: distorts the signal without applying Q. Ever thought of changing filter characteristic to something else? Load up the 'clean' preset and change characteristics of both filters to 'Smooth'...

I never tried quadfrohmage....but usually a low pass filter needs a little resonance boost (+20/30%) to match the incoming signal (cos of the filter curve which kills some mid/highs).
that's my experience with filters so far anyway.
if even adjusting Q still doesn't get u close to the original sound....then there's a problem.

The best filters for me are, ms 20fx, Emu-x, Sh-101.

I like filters to colour my sound, I want its character, thats why I use it.

Cheers

Well, if you've seen 'the other' filter thread then you'll know that I'm not allowed to check it out because I'm an very biased and evil man according to the developer. ;)

Oh sorry. Yes, I should have left this out. But what about the Strat? 8)
It has good sounding lowpass filters, too. OK, it has no resonance knob. That's the original Strat. Mine has no filter onboard. I'm filtering with extra hardware and in the pc. :hihi:  :D

Best wishes, FRitz

P.S. Until now I failed to successfully use my Strat in trance. I use different tools for that. 8)
P.P.S. My Strat sounds as fat as a Virus! And it's pure analog.
P.P.P.S. On high volumes with good distortion it even has some nicely controlable self oscillation!
OK, I let go now. :hihi:

Hm,

you're a "little" too far away to shortly come around so lending you my Strat is no quick option.

So, you've got one of these paddle Teles? My Strat has a boat neck, does that count, too? :hihi:
I once read about a british guitar manufacturer who made a guitar for a punk band. The guy said that it needed to be water proof and more precisely beer proof so that the punkies could use it safely on stage. :-o  :hihi:

Have fun, FRitz

As far as software goes, my favourite by far at the moment is the one in Ugo's Rez vst.

Hmmmm, Strat or Tele? Love 'em both, but I think I actually prefer the Tele. I had both but sold my electrics (and my beloved Twin) about 10 years ago. All I kept was my Ovation acoustic/electric. One day I'll get back to electrics...

Oh yeah, Volcano is a beautiful tool. I love the sound of it.

ha ha! glad i'm not the only one who feels like this then! my fave is the moogerfooger mf-101 (bog moog r.i.p.) closely followed by those in the roland sh101/mc202/tb303 etc.
