Unless your definition of "boy" includes 235 lb, balding, bearded, 47 year-olds
Who would be in a boy band??

Somehow I don't think it's an option for me.

I would be but I
1) am a tiny bit too old
2) am not pretty enough
3) can't sing well enough (not even close)*
4) can't dance (nor want to)
5) love to eat and well...you know...
6) am somehow not interested in underaged girls anymore
apart from that, I'm all for it.
* this is weird actually, I have quite good relative pitch hearing

This thread reminds me of the South Park episode "finger bang".
They form a boyband called..."finger bang"...and their 'hit' song is called..."finger bang"...
The lyrics go like this:
I'm gunna fingerbang, bang you into my life.
Girl, you like to fingerbang and it's alright.
Cuz' I'm the king of fingerbang, yea, that's right .
I'll just fingerbang, bang you every night.
It's a hilarious episode!

Crumbs!!
Bit of a can of worms moment here!!
To clarify: Yes, I was on about Louis Walsh Vs Phil Spector when I mentioned girl bands. Another band that could be mentioned is Destinys Child.
Oh and the idea of being homophobic is an alien concept to me (to coin a phrase). Clueless put my idea a lot more succintly and expressively: "be cynically manipulated and exploited and cynically manipulate and exploit the gay market". is exactly what i mean. Most boy bands (in the UK at least) start off in the gay clubs doing PAs and the like to get an audience and get exposure.
I think that the guys in boy bands probably do get the (legal) girls, but of course that would never be mentioned as it would damage the image.
As for the money - hmmm. Two of the Bay City Rollers have been convicted (I think one is being tried at the moment) for cocaine dealing. Not the best way to spend all your millions
@opiadream: damn right!! This is a non-issue, but I got really wound up by it the other day, and spleen needed to be vented.
@Guitarjeff, they were the first mainstream metal bands that came to mind ('cept the Merry Thoughts, natch). But i do like your thinking on the matter!
@tranceglobal, I see what you mean. Is that in reference to Justin Timberlake and his Neptunes work?
However, many of these bands appear, sell loads of records and are gone again, with nary a solo career in sight.
I think that it has something to do with my suspicions about product/consumer music - records calculated to sell to certain demographic, etc. But really, that can be said about most genres of music and many bands who would be counted as a "real" band

Slightly OT, but have you guys ever noticed that in all of the boy bands there's one who's losing his hair, so always wears a hat (as if to say, "No, I'm not losing my hair, I'm the one who wears the cool hats").
You'd think he would just get plugs and be done with it.

I've heard that they always recruit a slightly plain looking member just so that plain girls can feel they might have a chance with them...

having said that, a lot of the girls don't seem to care anyway - it's not as if they're ever going to meet and settle down anyway
