I just bought an E-MU XBoard25 (USB, small two octive midi controller).
I've loaded the software and plugged in the keyboard. I am still confused on getting a midi track to play/record.
Someone help.
Thanks,
Dash

in the settings tab look at the audio bit, look at the midi section. You will see your new midi usb controller listed, enable it. Now in the edit window choose the input on the left hand side and plug it into a track that has a vsti filter on it. Press record, press some keys, you should hear some noise.

It still isn't working. I have USB Audio Device selected in the white arrow to the left. It shows up as an USB Audio Device, is this correct?
What should the destination output be for the track? Will I be able to hear it, if I have the tracks playing, or only if I have that track actually recording?
thanks for any and all help.

things you need to have set up:
1) the input must be ACTIVE (you've just done that)
2) the input must be connected to the track input
[in 'per track input' mode, you select the device from the list of devices, and make sure the record arm 'R' is enabled. in the old-style mode, you just drag the 'USB Audio Device' (which should have a midi keyboard icon on it) to the track, so that it's connected with an arrowhead]
3] if you're using the keyboard to play a VSTi synth, plonk said synth onto the end of the track. ensure the track is set to output to the default audio device.
4] make sure E-TO-E is switched on - that's near the bottom right hand corner, and means that sound will be generated by synths/fx when playback is stopped. otherwise you'd need it to be playing/recording to hear anything from the synth.
if you wanted to play an external hardware synth, you'd set the track to output to the desired output midi port.

Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.
