Emu 0404 and T2 - anyone else crackling?

Dear tracktioneers,

since i put in an emu 0404 I'm not happy with T2 anymore. I have nearly ALWAYS to restart the device in the settings window, often more than once or even have to restart T2, to avoid horrible crackling when i start playing a project. This was no issue at all with m-audio delta audiophile before. All other programs work as expected, T2 is the only one who crackles.

Specs: winXP SP1, AMD XP3200, 1GB RAM, ASUS board (sorry can't recall the name and I'm already drunk - a bit at least  )..

any similiar experiences anyone?

thank you,
thoshu

Don't blame T2. The Emu cards are an absolute mare for many folk. There have been lots of issues for many people. Have you tried the unofficial forum: http://www.productionforums.com/index.php?f=52

Using the latest drivers 1.8 may fix problems although some have better luck with 1.6 it seems. I've got a 1212m and had audio dropout issues with AMD XP chip so had to buy a new PC with a P4 to get the card to work although latency still isn't great - not really stable for me below 10msec for projects of any size. The sound quality is excellent though which is why I persevere with it.

@ which latency are you running it? try raising it

Mine runs okay - I use it at latency of about 5ms & 24bit, although it used to crackle a little bit now and then, the latest drivers seem a lot better for me anyway - I have similar specs to yourself too.

how meny asio strips do you have loaded?

i would reconmend 4

the more you load the more strain it is on the emu,

also check for the 1.8 drivers (thay improved a few things for me & my AMD pc)

& run at 10ms

also, if your only using 1 asio out put? then try downloading asio4all www.asio4all.com

it gives a much more stable asio output via the wave out put

thx to all!

well, I used to run it with 10ms, never tried to raise the lateny though as I had less with the m-audio before, but of course I'll give it a try.

and asio4all will be on my to-do as well

I have the latest drivers, but that didn't help - I might try an older version of T2 than the latest, as it cracklse with NO other application

thank you!

also see if your video card is hogging the bus - that can have an effect too - look up pci latency (even if you have an agp card) and you'll find some googdies on taht

sorry i forgot to add, i used a pci latency tool to help me out aswell

the vga should have its own port with its own buffer rainge AFAIK

if its a pci grafix card then you will need to lower the buffer & max the buffer on the emu (witch will probly show up as a sound blaster  )

best of luck :)

also if you do try a older build of T2 could you post your findings please?

thx sghoughton and subz

my videocard won't be an issue as it has its own port. I'll have a look on one of those pci latency tools!

and of course I'll post if I have to run T2 with an older built - or a newer one - helloooo Beno, are you listening :)

well, yes, listening.... ;)

I won't find any time before next wednesday to try out all your tipps - nice weekend everyone!

Another thing you could try is Real Time Priority Mode - this tightens up MIDI timing on my 0404, but on or off I have no audio problems with it (latency 8ms @ 44.1/24) with loads of strips in PatchMix. So it should be possible to get it going reliably!

Warning

"real time priority mode" can cause Tracktion to lock up with sertan vst's

but it will make midi tighter

Thanx for those last two tipps! :)

After switching to Asio4All the troubles didn't occure again - but I had no time to test it extensively, at least the first rounds went well without having to restart the device.

thanks again.

So.... make your life easy and go back to the Audiophile.
I have purchased equipment that were hundreds of dollars but as much as I liked it, if they didn't work as expected I just gave up on them. Why create problem? Just return the damn thing and get something else that works and you will be happy with.
