what's the official stance on SP2 by Mackie/Loud Technologies/RMS according to the use of T2 and SP2 on the same machine? Can we use it and not expect any glitches or problems?

eh?

er... never had any problems with it myself
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Hrm?

I don't think there's any sort of 'official' stance, because T2 and SP2 compatibility is a non-issue. It's never been a problem that needed to be addressed. As far as I know, T2 doesn't call upon any functions that would make SP2 unhappy.

Or, from a different perspective:

I've always used SP2 and T2 (and T1 for that matter), and it's never been an issue. Also, I'm a forum rat and I've never noticed anyone else with an issue.

SP2 fixed a number of issues I ha been having with an older machine. Since upgrading to a new machine I have been running SP2 with no issues, although I have disabled a number of features.

In general, we always test with the latest and greatest OS revisions and unless clearly otherwise noted, that is the version we recomend. Now that doesn't mean if things are running fine to go try and break things by downloading updates, but you can be sure that if MS releases a patch, that we are downloading it and installing it, and the next released version will have been tested on it.

ok. thanks.

that rules out T2 with SP2 becoming a problem. good.

now what about waves and SP2 with T2? anything going on there?

im doing a reformat and re-install, and just trying to get a little quick info as to whether i should enable auto updates or not. for the last two or three formats, i have used only the files on the disc. i have disabled updates and have not sought updates for any OS related software other than media player 1o.

any tips?

i've went through the black viper website and done some services tweaks and performance tweaks. anybody got any ideas or tips that one should read up on? or do?

Lee when we were going through all the waves stuff with you, we were all on SP2. Having said that, that question belongs on the waves forum.

sure beno, sorry again man.. ...sigh... when will i ever learn? i just thought since we were talking about it... didn't mean to overstep boundaries. ;)

phz, i always visit that sight when i do a reformat :D

i just don't trust SP2 with audio editing software yet and im a little leery of what to do with it. but it looks like you good men are using it, so i may choose to do so myself.

my pro tools le rig went berzerk when i put SP2 on this machine. so im still once bitten twice shy. you fellas can sympathize with that, yeah?

im shocked at your "elegant disregard" for the well being of my machine!

I've been running SP2 since I bought my new box, seems happy enough.

One word to the wise, though, Lee-- almost any problems people have had with SP2 (with regards to Cubase in particular, but also with other setups) have come from installing SP2 well into their established setups.

Although SP2 should be fine in most situations, I only TRULY feel comfortable recommending ANY major OS upgrade as part of a fresh install. If you're like me, you probably hate doing fresh installs very often, but this is one thing I'd do right from the beginning.

1. Install XP, whatever version you have
2. SP2
3. The rest of your shite.
