under the settings tab, one can choose audio devices, plugins, key mappings, external controllers, or misc.

i have an e-mu xboard25 midi keyboard. i have installed and re-installed a few times. under external controllers the only choices are mackie control universal or mackie c4.

do i need to have the e-mu keyboard also show up in that window

i posted a few days ago "midi keyboard in t2" and had two replies, but so far have had no luck in getting the keyboard to generate sound thru t2

i have used the mouse to click on the piano roll and have heard audio, so i know i at least have that much correct

please help!

thanks,

And it is important that unless you have one of these devices you do *NOT* select anything on this tab. Leave both options unnassigned.

No. That tab is specifically for external control surfaces. At this time Tracktion only provides support for the two listed surfaces, thoygh I'm sure more will be added later. A few other control surfaces can emulate these devices and can therefore be used, but unless you have such a device, chaging settings in that tab can only lead to confusion later.

MIDI keyboards are handled as standard MIDI devices, as are most fader/knob controllers.

If a MIDI device is connected to a working MIDI input, and the input is set as active in Tracktion, then simply connecting that input to a track on the edit page is all that is required to use your MIDI keyboard.

thanks valley

is the keyboard showing up? i have the choice of usb audio device, but is that the keyboard?

i believe it is, because it only started showing up once i had installed the keyboard. but why does it show up as a usb audio device, instead of a usb midi device?

i still have no idea why i can't get the keyboard to control the vst instrument. i did manage to control the instrument thru the piano roll, so that's progress.

thoughts?

thanks,

thanks beno.

i'll give it a shot tonight at home, since my work cpu won't play the video (damn us military loadsets).

hopefully i'll be in luck tonight. i really enjoy working in t2...quite intuitive. but this midi keyboard issue is killing me.

thanks again to everyone for their help

Post

well i watched the video. i definitely owe pHz a big thanks for taking the time to make that...

but still no joy. the video shows small keyboard icons to very the very left in the t2 new edit window (just to the left of the white input device arrows. i have nothing.

i think i'll try to reinstall the keyboard. any other thoughts?

thanks

"Options" -> "Use a 'per track' view for input devices" : is this turned on? If so turn it off .. or alternatively, right-click the icon to the left of the track, pick an input, and enable it (if needed) with the "R" symbol.

Post

Also, check that both the little buttons to the right of the "new filter" icon are pressed (these show and hide the inputs & filter sections)

Post

Also, make sure you haven't hidden your input section. There are some hide show buttons to the top right next to the filters and racks buttons. Make sure none of them are enabled.

after i posted last night i was futzing around some more.

in the keyboard (e-mu xboard 25) manual it talked about setting the e-mu as the midi device manager wihtin windows. low and behold, microsoft was still selected, so i made the change.

NOW...with the e-mu as the midi device manager within windows, if the keyboard is turned on, t2 locks up while initializing.

if i turn the keyboard off, t2 fires right up with no problems (of course, i can't select the keyboard as a midi input).

what's going on here? it's tough to troubleshoot via the forum because of the time delay, though i do greatly appreciate it.

would anyone be available/willing to help me with a little troubleshooting this thursday evening, say around 8:30pm EST.

thanks for your continued help.

if you have VNC software instaled i can look at your pc while its online

i think winxp has somthing similer built in (slow as <edited out by modarator> though)

also dose the keyboard also have a midi out?

if yes then you can connect the pc to that port & the usb port (set it back to be the windows midi divice so it dosent lock T2 on boot) & use the midi in in tracktion insted of the usb in

if you have no midi in ports on your pc but there is somthing called "mpu401" in your device list, then you can get a lead that gose to the joypad port on the sound card & has a midi in & out on the other end for about £15 uk

I wouldn't call remote desktop slow, it is *significantly* more responsive than X, or VNC for remote application usage IME.

(Also, I can't recall offhand if WinXP Home can act as a remote desktop server, it may just be XP Pro that can do this.)
