SampleTank crashes? Am I doing something wrong?!?!

Well, I got my boxed version of T2 this afternoon and I've been playing all evening. I was delighted to see that my Absynth GUI problem went away with the fresh install only to find it doing the same thing again when I updated to the latest version. It disappears! :x So, I said, "screw it" because I bought it knowing that wasn't going to work for me. Now I have a NEW problem. Am I doing this right?!?!

1. I put a filter on track 1 - SampleTank.
2. I load a bass patch up on midi channel one
3. I load a drum kit patch on midi channel two
4. I load a synth patch on midi channel three
5. I create 3 blank tracks and set their output to track one
6. I go to track two and create a blank box and set the channel to one (same for track three and four).
7. I record some midi notes and it plays in track two. Then go to three and four.
8. I listen to it play and suddenly it crashes.

I tried importing a MIDI file and assigned clips to route to a blank track with just SampleTank and it crashes, too. :o

I'm thinking, "Oh, boy... I really stepped in it this time". I looked for info on how to use multi-timbral VSTi on Tracktion and found nothing EXCEPT that I can route the outputs to separate tracks with a rack.

I searched the forums and found nothing but if someone can direct me to a link, I'd love to understand what I'm doing to cause this problem. I've tried it with my mLan driver and built-in audio and have 13 crash logs. It's not hardware.

:help:

Thanks!

Huh? Ignore what? Me? What?

A PC person could reply to my post. Functionally, T2 is the same. I was wondering if my method is right and not if it was specific to a platform.

I replied before noting your signature. Once I realised you were using a mac my post was invalid, so I removed it.

Not quite. There is a driver issue between some plugins (ST included) and Tracktion, but it is only on PC.

I have no idea why ST would be exploding on a Mac. Sorry.

Oh, I get it! :hihi: Am I routing things correctly? Is that how it's done in Tracktion? I swear when I had 1.6, it wouldn't do this.

I was really hoping Tracktion was going to be stable. I guess that relative, though.

Hey? Have you seen my missing Absynth GUI? :hihi: Me neither!

Well, thanks! Have a great night!

It looks fine to me, and I can't see what you could be doing wrong TBH. I guess the only possible is if somehow you have a MIDI loop and it is simply sending shitloads of repeated MIDI to the plug. Beyond that, it's hard to set things up such that it crashes things. :?

Try reinstalling T2 and ST. It could be an install problem (corrupted files, messed up permissions etc).

Do you have a T1 install you could test? If you can;t get it to work with T2, perhaps try testing T1 to see if it still works.

It genuinely usually is, but plugins make 'stable' very much a relative thing. That's the trade-off for being able to use multiple pieces of software together.

Hopefully a fellow mac user can set you right though.

Hmm that seems strange. Is it reproduceable? Does this particular edit always crash? Are there any other plug-ins besides sample tank? If it is reproducible, can you create an archive of the edit and send it to techmail@mackie.com, and put "attention Beno" in the title. Be sure to explain exactly what steps I will need to do to get it to crash.

Also, in the meanwhile, I would try the rack approach to see if that improves things. Or simply use multiple instances of Sample Tank.
