They make some OK guitar amps.. but everything else sucks as far as I can tell, especially the PA gear. :-o

Post

Peavey also makes wonderful guitars. ;)

What instrument are you using with NSkit7? The version I have is all wavs that I use in DR-008. Are you using the soundfont?

Post

Yup, I'm using the soundfont and sfz in DFD mode. I need to do that or I run out of memory on my pitiful machine. :D

I bought BFD the other day :D
The day after I installed it, I went out and bought another gig of RAM.. :hihi:

Post

Heheheh. I'd love to get BFD. My most-wanted plug-in, but:

a) too expensive for my music budget; even though it's worth the price of admission, I don't have the ticket cost
b) I would also have to (as you have done!) upgrade my machine. :D

Well, I was asked to make a bunch of motown backing tracks for a friend's girlfriend.. but their budget was pretty low, so I decided to spend it all on BFD: that way it feels less like working and more like playing, and I'm less tempted to calculate the hourly rate :hihi:

Post

Awesome. I absolutely love Motown... it's a tough one to emulate, though, or at least I've found it to be. We should start a Motown production techniques thread in the appropriate forum. :D

Of course, when I say "we", what I really mean is knowledgable people OTHER than me. <chuckle>

I would welcome any tips you had to offer Greg! ;)

Here's my first attempt: Sugar Pie though its not finished. (planning to replace the MIDI sax parts with a real horn player, and probably get a pianist to play the piano in with more feeling than I programmed it..)

Hi Greg

My bass track is loaded up on the other site for you to play around with.

Hey! Off to check it out. ;)

I hope it won't be a hassle to record the 'bridge' when it's written? Perhaps I should pause everything until the entire arrangement's done. I meant to do it that way all along (makes for a smoother collab) but I guess I got over-excited.

Hey Greg, how are you getting on with the rest of your song?

Graham,

It's almost ready for your bassline! I meant to finish it this long weekend, but things kept happening. Living with your girlfriend is more time-consuming than I thought, and I don't mean that in the eyebrow-waggling way. ;)

I have the riff for the 'bridge', but I just need to finalize the structure. Being that this is a collab, I suppose some input could be useful! Let me show you what I have tomorrow and we can 'discuss'. :D

Yep, sounds good. I probably won't have the time to look at it properly until the weekend anyway. No hurry. If you're happy with it all once completed I would be happy to copy my track(s) onto CD as 24/44.1 wav file and post to you. At least that way you get a quality recording rather than MP3. Let me know.

Cheers
Graham

PS - This is fun - I've never done this internationally before!!
