Preset Exchange Area!

Hmmm, I don't like the idea of making commercial preset packages too much. On the other hand, I can hardly afford a pro patch developer without some return of investment... hmmm...

I think the best and natural way would be users exchanging presets. Obviously this doesn't happen too much in the forums. I *should* finally come up with a patch exchange area on my website. But as things happen to be, I have to concentrate on Zebra2 currently.

My personal choice would be a web based preset exchange built right into the plugins. By that you could simply push a "submit" button and your current preset is up in the database, along with some meta information. Within the preset manager you could browse the presets in the database, and save the ones you want to keep. *sigh* I just don't know when to do this...

my my, mr urs, that's a remarkably forward thinking idea there!

an intriguing concept.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

Well, there are pros and cons.

Pro: This might be *the* system to get more presets.

Con: Not everybody has his audio machine on the net, many people will find software that connects itself to a server suspicious and the development of such a solution would cost an incredible amount of time.

A better approach might be a "synchronize" function. You could mark your own presets "shared" within the plugin. This will put a copy of the preset file into a special folder. When you hit "synchronize", it will upload the shared presets and download the latest contributions from other people.

From time to time (monthly?) I could assemble a seperate download from all new entries, for those who do not want to have the software connected to the internet.

Another problem is the preset format. I would have to use a custom interchange format that wouldn't be recognized by the host but by all versions of the plugin. Well, other plugins have their own formats, too...

I'll think about it. We'll see... my priority is still getting Zebra2 finished.

;) Urs

i get shivers down my spine when you mention this ... ;-)

Agree, please don't let anything get in the way of Zebra2!! Can't wait. Great to consider thoughs ways to get more patches in the hands of musicians who are simply no good at programming (err, thats me)......

ok, posted these in the this ( http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=113149 ) thread already, but for everybody to get them, here they are: http://www.grenzmord.de/fsva_lucipher_2.zip

In the next Z2 release, can we have relative addressing for the patch storage?

Please do not assume that all end users are storing / installing personal data on C: (the OS drive).

Thanks

I think the new DirectWave sampler has built in internet patch sharing.

I think it's especially good for sharing complex envelope patches, etc...

Maybe for Z 2.5?

Post

Yes, maybe for 2.5

I hardly manage to get everything done that was planned for 2.0 originally... :-|

Z2 is looking beyond sweet, I don't think you'll hear many complaints!

I just can't wait to play with the input & envelope follower to create my own comb filter FX :D

Regarding the sharing of patches:

I have found this to be very effective in other communities. In fact, there is a patch fest underway for the Absynth Yahoo group right now and this is the second within a period of a few months.

These patch fests have a way of encouraging people to program with synth and talk about it.

I am still learning to use Zebra at the moment. I understand the basics but when I do come up with some presets I will post them here but hopefully this can become more of a real community that shares not only patches but techniques.

Zebra 2 is different enough that it is worthy of some real discussion. It archetechture lends itself to some unique patch designs so I am very much curious about what people have come up with.

hi john

I second your idea about the patch fest.

I´m a occassional silent follower of the yahoo-absynth group.
I would like to contribute there also, but I dont know how it works,
are there any rules, themes ... or whatever.
And I think it would be good to have such a group for Zebra too.

Maybe you want to start a yahoo-group for Zebra?
I gonna join.
I would do it myself, but I cant moderate it, because I dont have the time for it.
sound is vibration, vibration is life

I would join a Zebra (or u-he) group on yahoo also. It's a great idea!
