I realise it's still not that hype to use MS stuff (appart of course from Windows XP...) and I agree that WMP isn't good at managing any important media pool. Thus not everyone is in need of this kind of features and especially not at the office. Fact is I can play usually everything I find online with it, so I don't see why the hell I would change, and take note those Flac guys doesn't really care about what a huge amount of people would prefer. I am sorry but not supporting WMP for a codec sounds rather elitist and arrogant.

I would not use MS WMP for anything – ever

Also I can think of ‘even more stupid and arrogant ideas' that are requested and implemented right this second

I use a combo of Winamp and WMP10. I agree they should make the codec work for WMP as well if they can.

Hmmm... It's a bit short to make myself an idea about this thing rock. Can you provide a link to the manufacturer's website ?

Sheesh, you people... I posted a FLAC file since it's the most popular lossless codec around.

I would have never ever believed someone gets sand in his vagina over this issue - I can of course provide the file in any other lossless format or even WAV - the WAV is just over twice as large...

Even Windows Media lossless if that's your cup of p... tea, I however never use WMP or any Windows Media for anything since it's not a cross platform format.

I'll post some more links tonight.

My choices.

Digital Hardware - Emu

Analog Hardware - Oberheim SEM

Software - tough choice because things are improving monthly. One problem I have with using a lot of Reaktor instruments is the filters all have that same "Reaktor" quality. Not bad, just all the same.

Unfortunately the company Orgon Systems, went bankrupt I think, after selling about 500 units. These are now selling on Ebay every once in a while for huge money..

Just listen to the file a while and note that there are mostly no oscillator changes, it's just the filter doing all the colouring. Pretty friggin amazing if you ask me.

I'd say oscillator plays a big role, since it is actually fed into the filter.

Man.. Talking about feeding, those cupcakes look good...

Anyways I'd say the Orgon sound is not just the filter, but to a great extent the sequencing, for osc, slides, and accents, and other things it may have.

From the res, my first guess would be that the filter is a diode-ladder, but it sounds somewhat transistor-ladder'ish too.. Anyone know what it is?

It's even hard to find decent information about it - I recall reading some pretty detailed bits about the filter a long time ago, but google doesn't come up with that much information about it anymore...

is a decent review about it, with a description about the filter... however, just knowing what controls there are on the machine say very little about the sound

This one has at least some descriptions about the filters, albeit in german...

Babelfished, some things sound funny

Perhaps some german person could be kind of enough to translate as some bits in the filter description table are gibberish after babelfishing - it's the 'P A' option that doesn't translate well (first of the phase filter options).

And then there's of course the pre-filter overdrive... something which I so far haven't heard that well in the digital realm, apart from Minimonsta perhaps (gee, what a coincidence!

)

Sounds extremely nice if Ohmies are looking into this
