Can someone explain why Tracktion can't handle audio??

Hi guys,
I've been pretty impressed with the concept of Tracktion, while fiddling. Then I brought home the audio files of my album from the studio I recorded at, and tried to import them into Tracktion. I CANNOT get 36 tracks to play in T2, with no fx, vsti's, etc. I put exactly the same files into Nuendo (which I still have for the moment), and it's flawlessly reading the SAME files (on the same drive etc).
Can someone explain why Tracktion would be different? Does it read off drives differently or something?
Cheers,
boogooloo1

No such problems for me in T1. I just imported around 30 tracks (stereo, 24bit) and it's been playing back fine.
Btw, during that I just realized again why Tracktion is such a stupid program (might've changed in T2): When I zoomed in so I could see all tracks at once, I couldn't even see anymore whether some track was soloed or muted. That's just as lame as it could get, if you ask me.

As said, over here I can handle this amount of tracks in any of the hosts I've got installed (Logic 5.5.1, SX 3, T1) without a single sign of CPU or disk overload. Actually, my machine barely seems to take notice.
Maybe there's a new preference or something in T2?

Tracktion is a good concept , there are a lot of good ideas in it, but the lack of a proper mixer view which was supposedly there to help your "workflow" is in fact nothing but annoying for most users who are used to regular sequencers/mixing environements.
If you already own Nuendo, I can't imagine why you would need Tracktion. That said, Tracktion has some very nice features, the rack filters in particular.
Anyway, if you can get used to the inline mixer, then Tracktion can be a good entry level sequencer.

Well, I'm actually sick of Nuendo, and want something simpler. I picked up Tracktion for less than a third of what I'd pay for it here, so I figured it was worth the risk - the mixer thing doesn't really bother me, actually. I'm hoping I'll get used to it!
Main priority though, is actually being able to USE it!

I have no problems with loads of tracks in T2 here.
But I have had problems with wavereading on occasion. Then so I just imported them into audacity (free) and exported them as wav on the same place. No problem there.

EH-HEM.
...
Check out the following:

Basically, it appears that both t1 and t2 have problems with processing large amounts of audio on specific machines, while most machines have few or no problems.
Mackie is looking into it, if you want to PM me I'll forward you the email address of the guy who was looking into it for me - if you forward him your specific machine details, he may be able to supply them to the techs- which may help potentially bring about an eventual solution.
needless to say, the problem is specific TO tracktion, and TO specific machines...

When you tried playback, did you get GUI glitches/freezing? There seems to be an issue with that in T2 that only affects some users/systems. On my 'puter I can't use T2 at present because the GUI stutters and causes audio problems. I certainly couldn't playback 36 tracks either
However, I have no problems at all in Live 5 or Adobe Audition, so I've got used to working fully in them for now.

i can use over 50 tracks with more than 60 vst plugins on a modest machine. we had an engineer that owned nuendo so we got to use it here for a little while. not a big deal... never understood what the hubbub was all about... it seemed to be crazy stupid confusing and loaded with a bunch of crap that only three or four high end engineers would actually use on a daily basis... so we fired him... lol. jk.
he moved on, and we migrated to cubase. oh brother! what fun... <sarcasm>
while much better than nuendo on the eyes and the workflow, cubase was still a hassle compared to tracktion. when we found tracktion we went ahead and made the purchases and installed. we had some technical issues to solve on our end (not the fault of tracktion) and we were off and running. then came T2. more issues on our end, then we were good to go again.
we can run 50+ tracks with more than 50 vst plugs before we overload.
not bad. not bad at all.
im gonna be as bold as to say that nuendo coulcn't do that on this system, but the tweaks that we made may have supported it. but tracktion is definitley for us. we are fully integrated and running smoothly.
live shows are a breeze. multitracking is a treat. this is the best experience i've had yet with an audio sequencer. im happy. you should be as well.
perhaps a few calls to the tech support line would sort everything out for you? it works for most others.

@meta: thanks very much, dude - I'll get in touch with him asap. Appreciate it!
@lharless: I'm really looking forward to getting Tracktion working properly, as it seems like a great product for me - I've always been 95% muso, 5% technical geek, so this seems ideal.
Cheers,
b.

Oh, and Meta - I DID start reading your thread, but stopped when everyone started rambling about the old hoary bit depth debate - lol
