Very simple punch-in question on T1.6x

First of all, yes I bought T2 back months ago.
No, it's not installed, I'm still on Win98SE (and saving pennies literally to buy a new machine - case is bought, now for the CPU/MOBO)
Anyhow,
How can I get backing tracks to cue for punch-ins? For example, I've got click settings for a 2 bar punch-in. But I can't hear any of my backing tracks for those two bars.
This is very irritating. I can't imagine I'm doing it the right way. There must be a way to hear the backing tracks to cue.
One way that I have gotten around it, is to eliminate the count-in measures and just start the new clip over top of the end of the clip that precedes it. But this gets very messy very quickly.
Please advise.

bump. 53 reads and no responses. Does anyone else have this problem? My guess it's a simple end-to-end thing, which has never made sense to me.
To reiterate, I just want to use a couple bars of other tracks being audible to cue me in on punchins, without overlapping existing audio clips so that I have to mine through a bunch of them to figure out which one i want to edit.
I need the cueing tracks to help sing in pitch when the punch-in section comes live.

I Had the same problem, it was a fault in T1, it has been fixed in T2.
Easy work around, create another track to do the punch in, then dice and splice the new take into your track

Ok. Just did it here. Too easy.
Set your In and Out markers where you want recording to stop and start.
Make sure Punch is enabled. And loop is disabled.
Put the cursor a few bars before the In point and hit Record.
T starts playing back tracks and punches in at the In maker.
Sing well and you're done.
Oh, yeah, this was on another track. I never overlay on an existing track. More tracks means the piece is more important!

On my setup, T will only play backing tracks exactly at the in marker - making the pre-punch click section kind of useless - unless you have perfect pitch.mandolarian wrote:T starts playing back tracks and punches in at the In maker.
Other sequencers that I've used, when allowing a couple of bars of click before punch-in, will also play back the backing tracks during those pre-punch click bars as well - to allow you to 'get in the mood' of the punch section.
