If this is targeted at me, as it seems to be, may I ask that you please read my (fairly long) post to the POLL thread? I don't care to explain for a second time, in great detail, that I am in no way anti-religious. But I very much resent being portrayed as arrogant or uncaring because I have strong convictions against supporting an organization that practices blatant, systematic discrimination, or because I let others know the facts.

I have no objection to the idea that some money I give to the Red Cross might be used for relief efforts outside the area affected by Katrina. As long as it's used effectively and to aid people who genuinely need it, it makes no difference to me exactly where each dollar and nickel ends up. People in need aren't restricted to a single geographic region.

I'm not enthusiastic about directing the proceeds of the sale to the musicians' union, as I'd prefer not to narrow the application of any money I might contribute. But if that's the decision of those in charge I could go along with it.

In any case, I deeply respect the work of everyone involved with the KVR CD project, however it goes. I hope to be able in good conscience to participate in the only way I'm able, which will be by buying a copy. If I don't, then the same money will go directly to the Red Cross -- along with ALL of my income for this coming month that doesn't go to paying inescapable bills.

No, not targetted at you Meffy, because, quite honestly, I didn't read your long post in the poll thread yet. But thanks for the breakdown! Now I don't have to :D

btw, when it comes to the voting of trax, what are the preferences for the CD? listenable/sellable/comersial appeal/all of the above? ...just curious :)
Snooky -- Just so you know your wee post a few pages back wasn't ignored, I can't wait!! :)

Wednesday is cool mate. As far as preferences for the tracks, we're certainly able to tell who has put the soul and effort into their song, and there lies the answer to your question. So, in a nutshell, we have quite a bit of quite excellent ambient material from some of KVR's finest, so songs with vocals and defined rhythms we can use more of for a balance. Capice mate?

Cheers & Thanks,
Alex

Well, no vox in this I'm afraid:

IIRS - Undercurrent

I'll be tweaking it right up to the deadline knowing me  so this is just to prove I'm really working on one.. ;)

Post

mine isn't an ambient track either... :)...
though no vocals...

Hey -- I didn't say there *had* to be vocals, but just that we could use a few more that do 'av 'em, IMHO. :)

Bring 'em on!! ;)

Again, if anyone missed it, here's the FTP info again. If you don't know how to use FTP, it's simple. Just ask here and somebody will inform you. Several of us can help.

Server: 65.254.59.234
Port: 21
User ID/Login: katrina@audiopedia.org
Password: relief

************NOTE:*******Make sure you upload a full wav file mixdown. If possible AT ALL, don't use mp3 as your upload. Yes, the files are bigger, but that's fine. It helps with the end quality of mastering. Upload AT LEAST 44.1khz and 16 bit*******************

PLEASE, if you have any questions, let me know ASAP. We eventually will set a deadline for tracks. So while there is no immediate rush, don't wait too long to upload. I only have one or two songs there so far, so somebody please start uploading.

Oh, and somebody uploaded something with this name:

.pureftpd-upload.43207cba.15.f05.551a1e51

It's about 30MB, so I think it's supposed to be a song, but something must have went wrong. Anyone claim this? You may have to reupload.

Disclaimer: I've opened this folder on my server space strictly for the Katrina relief CD project. This info is available to the public, but there is to be no downloading of tracks or changing of somebody else's track. You can reupload your own if there was a problem, but please replace the old one. If there is any downloading of all the tracks, say by somebody that just wants free songs, then the password will go private. If you want to listen to songs, please do so using the mp3 links. Sorry, but this has to be said. Thanks.

Now somebody get to uploading!

Oh, and just to insert this about the charities. Are we agreed about using CDBaby for distro once the CD is released? Or are we going to just keep the PayPal option?

Points to consider:
CDBaby I believe makes it's donations to the Red Cross, so if we use them, that's where the profits are going.

Also, CDBaby takes like $3-$4 of each CD for itself, which cuts WAY into the profits.

We can continue to use PayPal, as don't they accept credit cards now without a PayPal account? I'm not sure because I always pay using my account. If so, then I don't see why we would just stay away from CDbaby and use our site. CDBaby will take more profits, and we won't get any extra advertising through them that would help.

If we need something beyond PayPal, we can use 2Checkout, which is only $50 to sign up with no fees or such, and just takes a small part of sale, like PayPal. Overall, more money will get to charities doing it this way than going rhrough CDbaby. Remember, their piece of the pie comes AFTER we've already spent money on duplication, which WILL be expensive.

And it looks promising that we've already got 15 or so preorders. Hopefully we can reach many more.

hello all, :-)
to tell you the truth, i am a bit dissapointed that you decided to choose the final tracks out of all the submited tracks.
i thought that all tracks that were in the cd tracklist would be included. if we cut our tracks to about 4 minutes each, a 2-cd set would be ok.
of course, i have already bought 2 katrina relief cd's and i'll buy more, but i was a bit dissapointed, as i already went to the post office today and send my wav cd to xravenx with registered and express mail and paid 7.5 euros only for markus to receive it as soon as possible.
and now i find out that my track maybe will not included...
anyway, i do not want to be negative, the whole effort to help those people in need is indeed very nice.
and i'll help as much as i can, of course.
thank you,
best regards, :-)
bakis.
